Check the dogbones too. If one of them is not seated all the way it will click. Sometimes the spring in the outdrive doesn't put enough force on it to keep it seated

I have both the 5200kV and the 7800kV eZruns. Both are using the eZrun (HobbyWing) 25A ESC. I was running the 18A ESC but the 25A are better.

You can get either combo on ebay for $55 w/free...

I have a Vendetta buggy and lets just say it's NOT my favorite. One really aggravating thing is the way the wheels mount, so about the only thing I've been able to do is put on 1/10 scale...

The 7800kV in my RC18T DOES run hot, with outside street temps at 130-140 degs, it gets up to 170 degs. Even so, I haven't had even a single failure! But for $16, I can always get another!

I agree that it's part of the hobby, but this does seem a little more than normal problems. Maybe Duratrax can help, but here's a hint, talk nice when you talk to them, they have to listen to a lot...

IMO, the eZrun brushless setup is the best bang for your buck, but several of the places that sell them are backordered so you have to buy them from Hong Kong

Pro-Pulse is a great starter! Parts are easy to get on ebay.

Another alternative is this RC18T knockoff (actually they're built by the same company)...

I have a Vendetta and a RC18T, and I love them both. I have put more hop-up money into the RC18T, but both are great runners. Either way, you get a good ride!
