RE: Sheeting Leading Edge

Thanks!

A lot of people don't recognize it with the built-up cowl... I sheeted the turtle deck, which I also recommend as a good mod. Makes for a nice sleek looking airframe.

RE: Sheeting Leading Edge

It flies really well without modification... I have the stock wings and a set I scratch-built with leading edge sheeting, cap strips on the ribs, outer bay chopped and larger ailerons. The scratch...

RE: Skybolt hangar and clubhouse

Thanks! :)

I hand cut them... It isn't that bad if you get a good technique down.

I taped 2 metal rulers down on my cutting mat exactly 2 1/8" apart, slipped the monokote underneath the...

RE: Skybolt hangar and clubhouse

Thanks! :)

Just an FYI, it's not yellow/blue, it's yellow/metallic plumb (and aluminum for the checkers and some of the 'boltz)... :D

RE: Skybolt hangar and clubhouse

Making some good progress.... The basics are done, I just need to glue the hinges, install the electronics, etc... and clean it up.

Please ignore the mess in the background. These pics are...

RE: Recover 4* 60

Get that heat gun and melt it off...

Seriously. A nice strong hit with the heat gun and it'll dance off.

RE: Is it as hard as it looks?

I should add... Those Guillows kits are a pain to build. I'm actually planning to build a couple to improve my building skills some, they take some real patience to come out right. I've seen some...

RE: Cessna 210 centurion retractable gear

Wow. I had no idea that Cessna retracts were so simple (from the sound of other posts here).

The only gear up I ever saw was the Cessna that I was talking about earlier. It was a training...

RE: Rx antennas: can I do this?

Ditto. Don't cross the wires... I've never had a problem coiling like that. Do a really good range check and call it a day.

As long as you get a good range check you should be fine.

RE: Cessna 210 centurion retractable gear

That would be a real feat. I'd love to see functional scale Cessna high wing retractable gear.

I honestly can't see why they put RG on the real ones... It just seems so complicated and would...

RE: WHY NO SIMS WITH THEIR OWN DEDICTATED PROCCESSOR.......

Actually, I have 3 hours of simulator time in a full-motion DC-10 simulator just like you're describing... It did indeed have it's own building, computer(s) and power supply and I'm sure it didn't...

RE: TopFlite Monokote Smartstripe Tool

Here's a closeup of the seam... It was impossible (for me) to cut it straight by hand.

Yup. Great tool. I use mine all the time when covering...
Another great use I stumbled across the other day was fixing a lousily cut seam on a very tight-radiused curve on the trailing edge of an...

RE: Aileron leading edges

I scribe the centerline with a hinge centerline marking tool then sand by eye with a nice long aluminum sanding block. If you go slow and have good light, it's not that difficult. Though, on future...

RE: Repost: Does this Servo placement lokk okay?

They don't look too long to me... I've never had a problem with long pushrods as long as the outer tube is glued to the formers and/or supported as much as possible down the length of the fuse so...

You can see which direction I've decided to take.... :) I still have to add lightning bolts to the bottom wings and checkerboard the bottom of both wings and the tail (and paint the...

RE: Sterling Tiger Moth build

Crud. I wish I had seen this before. I would have recommended "Z" hinges for the ailerons. No bevel required, just two flat surfaces.

What kit is it? I think that stansfibertech.com caries some windscreens....

Otherwise, it's either back to the kit manufacturer or DIY. I haven't tried it, but I've heard that with some...

RE: Skybolt color scheme ideas... Help?

Thanks for the tips vmsguy... I like the idea of the lightning bolt starting at the cowl. And you're right, sometimes less IS more.

I'm definitely checkering the bottom of both wings though. ...

RE: Kit bashing

The thought has definitely crossed my mind. I would do electric though... Less strengthening would be needed and no fuel-proofing would mean less weight and a better flyer.
