RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Back in the old NiCd days I would pretty much agree with you. But today, with the low cost and fast charging LiPo, I think it just don't worth the hassle :)

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Yep. The engine is a huge question mark, and in case it shows up being pretty good, then the drivetrain will be beaten to death :)

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Some of us wants to have lots of specialized RCs. Some of us (like me) wants to make the most of one or two.

At the end, is all about having fun, besides some incomprehensible things (like...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Surely I don't want it to handle like an F1 :), but Terrapins are way beyond acceptable if you like to hit a track once in a while. They grip very well, but with those high walls the good grip turns...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Talking about "donuts"... is anyone more annoyed with it coming with the all tall-soft-wobbly Terrapins?

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Exactly, but lots of people tend to like this kind of "maneuver". It just eats tires, drivetrain and put the engine breathing directly in the middle of a dust cloud. To me, it's just incredibly...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

It would be nice, but there are a lot of mods on this truck. The cost of a conversion kit would probably be way too high.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

I don't think it will be that easy. The radio box was moved to where used to be the fuel tank, and the reverse module lever exists from the front of the gearbox, so the servo must be installed...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

To begin with the speculations, I think it will be hard to add a reverse module to it, 'cause it seems to be no place to mount the servo.

Ok, I know, almost everyone thinks reverse is useless,...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Well, it looks like I was wrong.

If this ever get to the streets, it will be a beast:

RE: Gas vs Nitro thoughts & etc

Apparently, the NHG GT9 uses an RCEXL ignition system.

There are some videos of this engine on YT, and it seems to have good idle, acceleration and a surprisingly wide rpm range, considering...

RE: Alloy Monster MKIII

Some give and take, I guess :)

And what happened with the first suspension arms design?

RE: RCEXL KILL SWITCH

Well, I'm going to use a RCEXL switch on a magneto engine, only because it's the only type I can have access quickly. Other than that, I would have to import a Super Bee and it would take a month or...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Time will tell. Most people don't think that wisely, they just look at the price tag.

Otherwise, I would sell a kidney to have a real 1/5 Savage, but it seems that HPI will stick with Bajas for...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

You got a point here.

But to cost as much as a 5B, it surely would have to be 1/5 scale, I really don't see many people tossing over $1000 at an 1/8, even being a gasser.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

It's a nice project, but I don't have the time, the workplace nor the tools to create my own chassis. And all the working projects I saw resulted in rigs with very challenging handling due to the...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Just got tired of waiting without any news from HPI, and bought a Redcat Rampage.

I would probably come back to HPI if they release an 1:5 4WD MT any time in the future, but I really doubt it...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

An exhaust deflector can do wonders, to direct oil away from the car and to kill the engine in any emergency :)

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

I really hope so, but wouldn't be surprised if they don't to "cut costs"...

On the other hand, I would beg for an "almost ready to run" without radio, but doubt they will do it.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

The line shoud be pinched just next to the carb, to reduce runtime. In any engine. And plug a metal pipe with a bare finger is... well, just begging for a burn :)

Of course a kill swith is a...

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

Why should it be any different from a glow engine? Just pinch the line or plug the pipe.

Of course a kill switch would be lots more "elegant", but not mandatory at all.

RE: New HPI 1/8 Gassers

That won't be a cheap conversion:

- Engine + ignition
- New engine mount
- New right chassis plate
- New pipe
- New front gas tank
- New radio/ignition tray
- New spur gear
