Nice! I put an OS 75 AX in mine but have not flown it yet. Scared to! Should pull it well. I am in Denver at 6000' elevation, so lose a bit of power. Nice job on the build!

Looks good Super08! I too like your color choice. The gold really looks good with the red and white. Gives it a nice dimension. I just covered a wing using Ultracote for the first time. I covered...

It really depends on your building skills and experience. The instructions and plans are very clear. The only thing that may be a bit tricky for some is shaping the forward fuselage. Once you get the...

Hi Wes,

I mixed in a bit of minwax 'Mission Oak' into 'Red Mahogany' to match the color on the Xoar Scimitar (dark colored) propeller (kind of anal, huh?) I then lightly misted the first 2 coats...

Hello JV,

I think you will enjoy this kit. I would not consider this kit to be truly scale by any means, but if you're willing to make some changes, you can incorporate some nice scale details. It...

I completely understand. My build went on hold several times due to similar issues. In fact, I have barely flown anything this entire year, and have yet to maiden my pup. Every once in a while I go...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Ialso noticed that during my build. I forced in epoxy around each mount as best that Icould, just to help keep it solid. Ihave found my mounts since to be very firm and solid.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Wes, I did the same. Bought the Weller from Home Depot, and it works just fine with silver solder. It also doesn't "overheat" the gear which is also important. However, I did have to return the first...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Refer to page 6 for a long discussion on the soldering process. A lot of good information that has already been discussed at length.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Use the trick of tacking the struts and gear with CA. Works great and holds everything in place while you solder, and simply burns off cleanly. That REALLYhelped. Ialso used the copper wire out of...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

I agree on the choke, and Idid exactly what you described(ran the choke to the cockpit via a well supported golden rod). Attached a threaded knob to the end for a good grip. This keeps the system...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

That is awesome! Congrats! I don't know if I could fly a model that looks as good as yours, and had that much work into. Great job. Can't wait to see the video. Maybe post it to YouTube and include a...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

3136,

Just received the optical gas kill switch. Thanks for the tip. This is perfect! I am also installing the manual switch so Ican manually switch off the engine at the plane as Senrak does, or...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Right. I did get that from your post. Makes total sense, and that is why I was asking about removing the idle set screw as Iam considering the same exact function. Idon't even mind using the throttle...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Thanks, how do you kill your engine from the radio? Are you using a kill switch attached to a servo? I would think if your idle set screw is set to an idle, then you cannot use throttle trim to shut...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Hey Guys,

Ihave an engine question. I am using a DLE 30. Do you remove the idle set screw? If it is set, then I am assuming that you cannot kill the engine from the radio. I am installing an...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

I actually followed the plans and simply threaded the wood block on the fuse. However, I also threaded the wing with blocks as well so that the wing position is "locked" in place no matter...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Thanks 3136. I think I agree that paint is the way to go for the tail feathers. I also used the decals from Balsa USA which I agree are a bit too perfect. I prepared and used the application fluid...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Yes, Ipurchased the cowl from Balsa USA. That is also linen color. The other color (antique?) is rather transparent. Trying to figure out what to use on the tail feathers for red, white, and blue....
