Yup... You got it. Shorter (12mm) on the rudder or the tips will hit in the middle and longer (16mm) on the elevators.

Just got off the phone with AW and here's the solution to the pushrod issue... (you were close ggroyal1) I will cut about an 1/8" off the ends of each ball link to allow them to screw in a bit more....
