RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

If I really had gumption, I'd rebuild the entire fuselage and fit it for electric. At that scale, however, electric starts getting a bit spendy, but would sure be easier. Not sure what I'm going to...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

The OS engine option has been considered, but the problem is the entire cowling would have to be rebuilt and there's the issue of the throttle linkage alignment. It would be an enormous amount of...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Well, not bad luck. I've flown the plane many times and while in the air, it's very stable. Almost impossible to get into trouble with it. The engine, however, is another story. It's the bane of this...

Who's a supplier for large scale hardware ?

Who are the suppliers / OEM's for large scale hardware such as clevises, bell cranks, push rods, etc. By large scale, I'm talking 1/3 scale or bigger.

Suggestions and/or links ?

Thanks,
...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Those are the articles Ifound with the full scale plans. That red and yellow one is one ofpossiblytwo that exist and was for sale at one time.

While I think it would be fun to own orevenbuild...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

As it turned out, it seems the low-end NV was the problem. I found a few discussions describing how to tune it, followed them, and two tanks run have shown no problems. The bottom line is the low-end...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

I've come across the original Gere plans, in detail, and boy ... making a 1/4 super scale of this ship sure is tempting. Would be a lot of work but fun.

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Excellent idea, thanks. This will work even on the existing holes if they start failing. Currently, they're sized for 2-56 machine screws and thus puts them at about 0.87. With a smaller nyrod core,...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

I have a question regarding the cowling screws. Please refer to the very first picture at the top of the thread. You'll see many screws holding both the two cowling pieces together and holding the...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

I see that RCM mag cover now. Irecall that issue as matter of fact. Funny how they had to use some knock-out on every cover to help cement the audience in place.

Anyway, I was able to purchase the...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Sorry Jim, I should have mentioned the original RCM kit was a 36" span. I scaled it up 1.5 x to accommodate the unused .51 I had. My eyes now also need a bigger plane :)

With respect to the...

RE: Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Not from Airtronics kit ( I was unaware of such ). I used the old RCM plans designed by Lee Renauld as a guide, but I used the outlines and dimensions only. All internal structure I designed myself (...

Gere Sport 30 just about finished.

Built this one from scratch, and not doing this for some 30 years, it's been a blast.

Sorry for the crappy pics ... it's late and a flash pic inside my garage stall was all I could do. Some nice...

RE: Where can I get lightweight wheels ?

I'm consideringthe Dubro 350V Vintage series, 1/8th scale. At 1.23 oz per wheel, tho, they're a bit heavier than I want and they're a bit spendy. They do, however, have thevisuals I'm looking for (...

Where can I get lightweight wheels ?

I need some 3-1/2" wheels for a plane I'm building and everything the local hobby store has feel like they're filled with lead. Surely there must be someone who makes lightweight wheels. It's for a...

RE: Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

I suppose a CA joint would probably be stronger than the wood and, thus, would be no more risk of cracking when you bend it than the wood itself.

If I do two layers, I could probably use regular...

RE: Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

I've had too many bad experiences with contact cement to even consider that. The way I'd have to drop the 2nd layer on around the cabanes is begging for a misalignment and once it touches,you're...

RE: Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

Yeah, the more I think about it this does have some appeal.

So, lets say I cover my deck with the first layer of 1/16 th. What sort of glue would oneto laminate the second layer? It would have to...

RE: Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

OK, now that I have everyone thinking about this, let me toss in another complication: The radius that I need to cover exceeds 6" ( the widest 1/8 I can find ), so the question is: Do I join two...

RE: Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

I had considered using two pieces of 1/16 and the option is not out. If curling the 1/8 fails, that's probably what I'll do.

Lot's of good tips here. Thanks to everyone.

Foodstick:
This isn't a kit, its a scratch-built Gere Sport. I chose the softest 1/8 sheet I could find so I'm fairly sure it can be bent ... I just...

Curling a 1/8 balsa sheet for rounded top.

I need to curl some 1/8 balsa for the top of a bipe fuselage I'm building. It will be formed to a half circle forthe top that has approx a 2.25" radius ... so not a huge bend. The curl will go across...

RE: Hinge installation. Is this unique or did I reinvent ?

You know, however, the thing is I actually bought some of these for a shelved design I was doing last January. I had them, knew they existed, and just forgot.
