I think that unexperianced people shouldn't mess with the LIPO batteries(explosive). Also you don't want to mess with the esc if it is under warranty and or you would have to change the connectors on...

You dont really need a HPI TX/RX. You can use any transmitter/receiver you want. Just program the ESC with the new receiver.

I don't know if you looked into buying a INFINITE ESC/MOTOR combo $123. I own one and it is still going. It is able to take up to 5s too. Just another option for you.
