RE: Best and Worst Nitro Engine Powered RC Airplanes for Beginners in the Market

I'm going to throw in another vote on the Goldberg Eagle 2, the big downside to it being you can't get it in ARF form anymore. I built one from a kit at 16, had one instructor aided flight where he...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

On another note, just started teaching my 13 year old on the SC today, he was a little too nervous to do much, but did make a few laps of the park on his own, and started to understand how it all...

RE: Official Hobby Zone "Super Cub" Thread

Hey GWS, just so you know, it doesn't get any more "old school" than breaking in the brushed can motors in water. It's been a tried and true method for the car guys for many years, and is considered...

Ok, I know you said not to, but you got my curiosity up and I gotta. What happened?

RE: Beware, newbies, for you may cut your finger off with a modeling blade!

Aaaaah, the memories. You gotta love those #11 blades, right up to the point you feel them hitting the bone, and don't forget that nice little "thunk" sound it makes if you're pushing hard enough....

RE: PVC gutter pipe

Don't know if you have them there, but Sutherlands is the only place around here that sells the square PVC gutter any more. Home Depot, Ace Hardware, all the others have gone to some corrugated...

RE: Comparison- Trainer

I haven't flown the LT40, so cannot comment on it, but my favorite trainer is the Goldberg Eagle 2. I soloed very quickly when I started flying, and have to attribute a lot of that to the Eagle. ...

RE: Builder or flyer?

I enjoy the building as much, if not a little more, than the flying. I've only ever had one ARF, and will not likely ever have another. Something about opening up that box, looking at all the...

RE: Flew for my first time yesterday!

Congratulations and welcome to the addiction, uh I mean hobby! Good to hear you did so well your first time out. Keep on practicing and you'll get to that inverted limbo pass, probably sooner than...

RE: Going solo in 2 flights? I'm convinced!

I think some people just "get it" a lot quicker than others. I don't know and won't guess as to why, but I have seen some guys solo after their first couple of flights, and others take a couple of...

RE: Flash 5 problem

OK, little update. I got the Tx working right. It was the adjustment on the gimbal itself. I just opened up the case and turned the adjuster until everything was centered up right. Now maybe I...

RE: Flash 5 problem

Anybody happen to have a manual for this radio, or just know how its done properly and can tell me? The reset, I mean. I know I have a manual around here somewhere, but I haven't cleaned my...

RE: Best Servos for Nitro Stadium Truck

It's not digital, but my favorite servo for my GT was the Hitec 625 MG, and use a 6 volt receiver pack. According to their specs, this gives you .15 seconds transit time, and 94.43 oz/in torque. I...

RE: Flash 5 problem

I think I'll have to explain better. With the EPA set to 100% for both positive and negative and trim set to 0%, the rudder movement is still not equal. I don't know if the Prism's and Eclipse's...

Flash 5 problem

I have an old-model Hitec Flash 5 that has never been flown in an aircraft (I bought it to put in a plane, then quit flying for several years). The problem I am experiencing is that the directional...

RE: Glow Plug Coil

Thanks everyone for the replies, suggestions, and help. I threw in some castor and will at least use up the gallon of 15% so that I didn't waste my money on it. After that, I'm just going to go...

RE: How many trees?

Whoa Bob, how fast were you goin' to bury one that deep in a tree??? Methinks that is one plane that was determined not only to rejoin its natural habitat, but to embed itself as deeply as possible.

RE: Glow Plug Coil

Bill, like I said before, I usually like to run some bean in it. I just picked up the wrong jug on the way out the LHS door. That will be getting fixed about tomorrow, as I just don't really trust...

RE: Glow Plug Coil

OK, little update. I tried the fox plug w/idle bar, and the good news is after about 10 minutes of run time, the coil remains undamaged. Bad news is, now the end of the muffler is spinning around,...

RE: Glow Plug Coil

Searched through everything I have, and I do have an OS #8, also have a Fox Standard w/idle bar. Is there an advantage to having an idle bar on a plug, or is it better to not have one? I've been...

RE: Glow Plug Coil

Oops, just noticed something else, the new fuel is all synthetic lubrication, I always used to use something with a little bean oil in it. I wouldn't think this would make a difference, but I could...

RE: Glow Plug Coil

Thanks djlyon, that helps. I'm going to guess too much nitro, unless I've really lost my touch for tuning an engine. Maybe it will help if I list what I'm using and doing:

Magnum GPA 40
Cool...

Glow Plug Coil

I just checked the glow plug on my Magnum GPA 40, and the end of the coil is all messed up. I remember reading somewhere what this is an indication of, but can't remember exactly what, and could not...

RE: Do a Good Preflight

Tweet, I feel your pain. I have been flying for a little over 10 years, and just joined the RAC (reversed ailerons club) about 8 months ago. I did essentially the same as you, swapped a radio, did...

RE: 4-stroke newbie, need help

"Throwing the prop" is actually just what it sounds like. If your mixture is too lean, the engine can backfire, loosening the prop nut, and "throw" the prop right off of the shaft. Not a pretty...
