I'm not one for reviving very old threads, but I just happened to be thinking about this one for some reason this past Saturday. I followed this build by the OP throughout and built mine at the same...

RE: O.S .46LA Head Gasket Help

My guess, being a new engine, it is set too lean. I would try richening the mixture a few clicks and trying again. Again, just a thought and may be worth trying.

RE: OS46FX Bearing Replacement Help

Just my quick thoughts.  Are you convinced it needs new bearings?  Do they feel rough or make abnormal noise?  It may be worth it to spend the $12 on a set of aftermarket bearings and give it a try....

RE: Real Flight Basic

If I had to guess from your description with full up elevator and little aileron effect, I would say you are stalling as others have suggested.  I'm thinking back to the way I learned before...

RE: GP Easy Sport, help

After re-reading my previous response, I do realize it sounded kind of.."duh".  My point was that even with the heavy FS 70 (over 20 oz) and the main gear in front of the CG, I had to move the...

RE: Wanting to get started.

My opinion: I would hold off on buying anything until visiting a club; if you go the club route.  Many times someone at a club will let you borrow their trainer to get started and you can work on...

RE: GP Easy Sport, help

I realize I am a few days behind on this one, but I built one from a kit about 11 years ago as a tail dragger for my second plane and flew it with an O.S. 46fx.  I remember the battery was mounted...

RE: Where do you like to fly?

I can understand what the thought process is.  I'm sure you will get a few responses about how it is wrong to fly in an unregulated area for the various reasons.  Although I do not have the...

RE: Another ARF bashing thread?...Not really

Great comments.  Surprised me a little after seeing many other opinionated threads bashing each other.  It kind of confirmed my experiences so far in this hobby.  Most are in it to have fun which...

Another ARF bashing thread?...Not really

I'm relatively new on RCU, but have been reading a lot. I've read many of the ARF bashing threads and can agree with both sides. I really don't care what people choose, it is their hobby to enjoy...

RE: Sig Somethin' Extra Build

I wouldn't consider moving the landing gear. As long as the gear is in the same location as indicated in the plans, it becomes a center of gravity/balance issue. With my plane balanced, there is not...

RE: Sig Somethin' Extra Build

I agree with the response about your color scheme.  While nice, it will be hard to see the difference in the air and will affect your visual perception and reflexes during maneuvers.  <div>...

RE: First plane, which servos?

Just my thoughts:  If you know you are getting into this hobby for the long term, starting with a good transmitter is a great idea.  You mentioned that you want to keep the trainer around if it...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

Do I sense a bit of sarcasm here? Not sure I want to open that can of worms. Yes, the engine does have a pretty good pop at TDC when cold. I'll try putting it back on the airframe and futher tweaking...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

I know I've gone way off original topic here, but just thought I would post an update.  I ran it on a stand yesterday and as usual ran great level.  When pointed vertical, the high speed did great...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

I took the engine apart last night to take a look.  I never have removed the piston from the rod, so they are still matched at least.  Both sides of the rod had a chamfer, but one side appeared to be...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

I appreciate your comments. I definitely realized this while learning this plane. While sport flying, I never noticed the 2 stroke time lag to wind up to power. I've gotten used to the little...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

It's possible that some crud may have gotten into the engine.  I have not run it in a dusty environment until the past few weeks in the field behind my house.  I just don't understand because it...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

Well....  I never start a sentence with well, but it works here.  Anyone want to buy a used GMS 47?  Just joking.  I greatly appreciate all the comments, but I've all but given up on this engine.  I...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

I'm trying to put all these ideas together.  My GMS came with a standard baffled muffler and not the "tower" muffler.  It appears that exhaust pressure is good in the tank based on what I can see in...

RE: Tuning 2-cycle for hovering

Thanks for the comments so far.  I realized I left the specifics out of my original post.  It is a GMS 47 using powermaster 15%.  I bought the engine new around 2001 and put a couple of good years on...
