RE: making checkerboard patterns

IF you are willing to paint instead of stick-on then it really isn't too difficult. You can purchase masking tape of various widths at an auto paint supply store. First, paint the whole area one of...

RE: Muffler pressure - yes or no

I'm not really concerned about the "Power" level as in both instances there is plenty. I'm using a 12 x 6 wood prop. What I am concerned about it that it transition smoothly so I don't loose in a...

I have an OLD engine - an Italian Super Tigre 60. I'm using a Pitts style muffler and 10% nitro 20% oil mix. It starts very easily and seems to run pretty good using muffler pressure to the tank....

RE: Prime cowled engine

Yes, I'm using muffler pressure! Two of the three planes have Pitts style mufflers and are difficult to get to when applying the starter as they are exiting the bottom of the cowl. The other plane...

Prime cowled engine

Can someone tell me how they "prime" a cowled in engine. I have 3 planes now with the engines cowled in. It is a real chore to get the engine started without a prime. I'm used to covering the...

RE: 20 years in storage - Flyable or not?

Carl, you can build in some confidence in the hinges. Go to the grocery store and purchase a box of "round" tooth picks. Come back to your shop and drill a suitable hole from the bottom of the...

RE: Engine overheating

Problem solved! Thank you guys for all your input.

I took it to our local engine guru who ran some of "his" fuel through it without any sign of overheating. - 320ΒΊ. His blend is 10% nitro and...

RE: Engine overheating

Thanks Gray Beard. Since I wasn't the one to replace the bearing I don't know if the shield was removed or not, but I can probably find out.

As for FAI fuel I really don't know. I had a friend...

Engine overheating

20+ year old Webra 61 - Runs (at least for a few minutes), overheats, and quits.

Used VERY little - maybe 6 tanks at most and that was years ago. Front bearing replaced. Running Cool Power...

RE: Great Planes Easy Sport vs Hobbico Avistar

Got my Easy Sport last year. The name says it all. It is truly an easy plane to fly. It reminds me of the old Falcon 56 from years back. I think they either bought or stole the design. Landings...

RE: TF P-51D ARF 60 SIZE CRAP

I feel for you. Gosh! Harken back to the "old days" when we flew what we built. If it troubles you so much I feel pretty sure you can get the TF kit and build the thing yourself. Then you would...

RE: tuning an engine

All of the above advice is good but one thing was overlooked. With the engine NOT running shake the plane and listen for the clunk to rattle around in the tank. It could be that your clunk has...

RE: tearing the skin!!!

Hmmm! Do you have a cat???

RE: Bent / Warped canopy

If you have a blower to shrink covering such as MonoKote, you can apply a LITTLE heat and with gloves on GENTLY reshape the canopy. The key words are LITTLE and GENTLY.

RE: ABS cowl in kit

Haven't done this in a long time but this is a great procedure. From the scraps of ABS cut long strips about 1/4" wide. Clamp these at either end of 1/2 the cowl. Now fit the other 1/2 cowl - this...

RE: What is the ideal & right approach for landing?

It is good to know how to handle a dead stick landing but use that knowledge only in emergencies. It should not be the normal way to land. Powered landings are best as you can "go around" again if...

My Decathlon flies great with an OS 46 AX and a 11x7 prop. This is not a pattern plane but flies in a scale like manner. One has to use the rudder judiciously particularly on takeoff. The 1x1...
