RE: New 60-90 Yak 54 QB

Anyone have an all-up weight with a Saito 91/100 and typical setup? Any balancing problems? I'm wondering if I can hover/harrier/etc with a Saito 91 from another project...

Also, how hard is it...

RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly

Sorry to post this here, but I'm looking for a build/fly thread for the 74" EF Yak and cannot seem to find anything. Is there one? Or a review with a glow engine? I'm not very accomplished at finding...

RE: Horizontal vs. Inverted Engine Mounting

I would mount it whichever way reduces the cutout required in the nice cowl.. I put a Satio 91 sideways in a VF 58" extra with a pitts muffler and had to hack up the cowl way more than, in hindsight,...

RE: Good acrobatic plane for 91 4 stroke

I'll chime in for the VectorFlight models. I have the 58" Extra with a 91 Saito and it is a very nice IMAC-style acrobatic plane. Check out the long thread on this forum about the VF Extra and other...

RE: Vector Flight 60" Sukhoi

I'll second the applause for the sheeted/foam wings. The covering they use to sheet them is very durable. I had to ditch my VF 58" Extra in the stubble of a bean field this spring after a deadstick,...

RE: Funtana 90!

(Because I almost never get to use my M.S. Aero Engr degree any more...)

Lower density means a higher overall lift coefficient is needed for a given weight and speed.
A higher lift...

RE: A good 3rd plane

VectorFlight makes a very nice ARF. I have the 58" Extra with a Saito 91, seems like a perfect match. Plenty of power for uplines, not too heavy that it ruins the wing loading, etc. I'm very happy...

Saito 91 Exhaust Hole Damage

Grumph!

Side mounted Saito 91 on my Extra.. Slightly harder than normal landing (understatement) and my CF gear snapped, allowing the Slimline Pitts muffer to strike the ground with enough force...

RE: CF Gear for a 66" Extra

I got the "Something Extra" CF gear from www.fiber-lite.com at it fit/worked perfectly on my 58" VF Extra. Big improvement over the aluminum gear both in terms of weight and appearance.

RE: picking a ARF for a saito .91

I have a Saito .91 in my 58" VectorFlight Extra and am very happy with the combo. Nice ARF for the money. It is currently on sale, see www.vectorflight.com

RE: Scale Aerobatic Second Plane

I went with a VectorFlight 58" Extra for my second plane after flying an Avistar last year.

I followed the advice from other people who'd flown this plane and its 66" sister and was careful...

RE: saito 91 tuning with pitts muffler

Just a quick followup in case anyone runs across this thread someday..

I pinched (squished?) one of the two exhaust tubes almost completely closed and things seemed to get a lot better. There is...

RE: Loctite and Blind Nuts

Yes, but I am still breaking in the engine and it idles pretty rough.

The firewall is doubled 1/8-inch plywood. I seemed to be crushing in the small flat washers I had used to shim for right...

Loctite and Blind Nuts

I'm having trouble with the 6-32 bolts holding my nylon engine mount to the firewall... Despite a lockwasher they like to back out.

Does Loctite work with blind nuts? How best to get the darn...

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Maidened my VF 58" Extra Friday afternoon. It's my second plane (first was an Avistar) so I knew it would be a little bit of a handful, but the guys are the field told me I could handle it.. and I...

RE: Tail heavy and puzzled? WM Giant Extra 300S

Pull the servo out (temporarily) and see how much of the nose weight can be eliminated to achieve the same c.g. position. Will tell you where the tail-heaviness is really coming from.

RE: To avoid disaster... check your fuel tank seal regularly!

Exact same problem here (loose stopper) on my first Avistar flight for the year. I first noticed a problem when the aircraft pitched up sharply when I increased power in flight (fuel sloshing back in...

RE: parachute recovery system

For the same area-loading on a 10-lb plane you'd need 25 sqft, or about 5.7 foot diameter as you say.

However, if I remember my Aero Engr classes correctly, the terminal velocity goes up as the...

RE: saito 91 tuning with pitts muffler

Thanks for the advice. I assume I could just "squish" one or both of the pipes as well.. might look terrible, tho.

Exactly how hot are we talking about? Could I just stuff a small plug of...

saito 91 tuning with pitts muffler

Hi All-
I'm new to four stroke engines. I have a Saito 91 I've started test running on the plane it is intended for. It was purchased used, was already broken in and likely tuned well by previous...

Cowl Hatch Pressure Question

Hi All-
I needed to cut out a hatch on the underside of my new VF Extra cowl to slip it over the Pitts muffler exhaust pipes (Saito 91 side mounted with slimeline pitts 4007). The hatch is about 4...

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Thanks for the advice. Worked like a charm. And now the high-speed mixture knob sticks out about 3/8-in above the cowl, making adjustments easy!

Assembly of my 58" Extra going well, generally....

RE: Avistar with NextStar Modifications

I beg to differ. After a flight or two with some oil on them, or when cold (Minnesota!), even brand new #64's will be loose on an Avistar. Maybe the chord is shorter than some planes, or the dowels...

RE: Avistar with NextStar Modifications

Be sure to use enough rubber bands when you fly the Avistar with a hot engine like the 46fx/ax.. Even with 12-14 bands my leading-edge used to pull up on some loops, causing a higher angle-of-attack,...
