Alright, the cam and cam cover/holder are off the motor and I'm heating the motor in the oven now. I tried whacking off the prop washer like you said but it didn't want to come off cold...Just kept...

.91 Saito rebuild

So do I have to pull the prop drive off, or will heat get it off. I haven't removed it yet. If I have to pull it, then I guess a cheap parts store puller would be in order. Can it be heated and...

Saito .91 go bye bye

The Saito in my UCD decided to take an early retirement and ground itself to death on Saturday. :(

It looks like it had ingested a foreign object and chewed up the counterbalance and engine...

.91 Saito rebuild

So there I was, flying the other day and my motor started making some strange noises. Before I knew it, I needed full throttle to hover. After it landed the motor died. I went up to it and spun...

U Can Do 3D .60

I have a Saito .91 in mine and it feels a bit weak for 3D in my opinion. I have thought a YS 110 would be great...not too heavy and LOADS of power.

That's if you don't mind burning fuel.

How much nitro?

It's because we're all nuts. :bananahea

We also supercharge and turbocharge our gasoline engines in our automobiles.

I have a 5.3 Litre engine in my 5500 lbs (2495 Kilos) truck that gets...

How much nitro?

You are right about the rusting. Nitromethane attracts water from the air and thus water gets into your engine. But as long as you don't forget to run it out when your done flying for the day, rust...

Wing Loading????

If I can't use my fingers and toes to do the math, I'm pretty much done.

I imagine it's quite elaborate to calculate a wings volume. Please tell us more!

How much nitro?

I don't know if 15 to 30% is even considered high anymore. Thats pretty much average now-a-days. I see very few people running 5% nitro at the field, but the warbird racers are running 65 and...

Wing Loading????

Wing loading is usually listed as Ounces/Sq Ft.

Example

So on a UCD3D the wing area is 1072 sq in.

To convert that to square feet you divide it by 12 TWICE to get 7.44 sq ft.

Advertised...

No Edge 540?

Is there any reason why an Edge 540T wouldn't make a good IMAC plane? I'm considering building either the Mike Hurley Extra 300S or a Carden 35% Edge 540T. I am most interested in 3D but would like...

Tapered wing tips VS. Squared wing tips

I understand some basics about aerodynamics (Turn engine on, put plane on run way, go fast, plane flies because air likes to play with planes).

No really, I was wondering if anyone could explain...

APC 16x4W with my saito .91

Tried out the 16x4W on my plane this afternoon. I normaly run a Master Airscrew 14x6 and the 16x4 was a no go. I'm usually at around 2/3 to 3/4 throttle to hover. With the APC I was at full...

Help me pick my next plane!

Great Planes has a 60 size extra KIT that comes in between 7 to 7 1/2 lbs, and has a 64 inch wing span. Since it's a kit the quality is pretty much up to you. GP makes nice kits and in my opinion,...

Another CG adjustment.

Got the CG back to 6" and still not satisfied. I don't know if its the design but it still wants to pull to the deck inverted, although very slightly. I thought more than an inch of CG adjustment...

Squared off wingtips.

I was wondering if anyone out there has squared off the wingtips on their UCD by adding another rib and extending the wing spars, leading edge and trailing edge. I did that to mine and also built up...

Since my initail review I've made a couple of changes to the UCD.

Change #1: CG adjustment

I moved the battery from near the fuel tank to behind the wing in the fuselage. This...
