project:boredom relief

I have a husky 357 saw motor and a bunch of thin mahogany plywood. I have built racing two strokes for some time now. Winter is settling in and I am bored. In the spring I will have access to...

RE: crankshaft balancing.?.?.?......

Right, and if you think about it, maybe grab an old cranktrain and look at it, put it in the position I mentioned above, the big end of the rod and the rod's length back to the crank's centerline...

RE: crankshaft balancing.?.?.?......

Yes, you are right RCIGN1, there is no such thing as perfect dynamic balance on a single cylinder engine. This doesn't mean that the piston, rod and crank need not be balanced in relationship to each...

RE: crankshaft balancing.?.?.?......

There is a ton of information on this subject available, just google crankshaft balancing and wade through the hits. On an echo I wouldn't advise much in the way of changes, though. They are pretty...

RE: is there hope? Can this engine be converted?

Dang, Willdo and Volfy have the right idea. Unless this sprayer engine you are looking at lays around in heaps over there in India, I would be looking to get an engine/carb/something shipped over....

RE: Shindaiwa c4??

I have only dealt with them in the string trimmer aspect. They are great engines for that. True 'all position' 4 strokes, lighter than the honda and briggs 4 strokes and they rev. Our shop has dealt...

RE: bayliner

How about this sarcastic comment from my Coast Guard ex-roomie;

"That's not a boat , that's a Bayliner!"

(he ran a fast response boat for the CG on Lakes Huron and Michigan and said 60% of...

Shindaiwa c4??

Anyone tried one of these engines? Poppet valves, compression charged with two stroke mix. They sound funky and make decent power.

RE: Anyone for a 185cc two stroke?

Yeah!~ Gasoline 250cc two strokes see 90 hp on a regular basis(moto gp2).

I also said above that 6600rpm is a limit set by the water pump attached to the engine in this particular application....

RE: Homie 25 Throttle spring????????/

(quote)I generally remove the throttle spring. However, if you want to keep it, remove it and cut off a couple of truns which should weaken it somewhat.

(my reply)
Shorten a spring, any...

RE: Craftsman Engine ????

Mr. Pipercub has the right idea. I don't have a bunch of experience putting converted saw engines in r/c planes but in kart/scooter/bicycle kicker conversions, that is how it is done. There should be...

RE: Craftsman Engine ????

That model number comes up as a Poulan/Baird 3.7 cubic inch engine. 6.13c.u. is 100cc-you can do the math, but am getting 60 or so cc's.

My boss says they were quite smooth in their day, but...

RE: Craftsman Engine ????

I am pretty sure the 358 prefix is Poulan as the vendor to Sears, but I might be wrong in that quickie asessment. Lemme run the rest of the number tomorrow, and I will have details for you.

The...

RE: Craftsman Engine ????

Which model craftsman saw? Is the sears model tag still on it? The first three numbers of sears/craftsman model numbers denotes the vendor. I.E. 143-....... is Tecumseh, etc. I can find out...

RE: Anyone for a 185cc two stroke?

Okay, I started this thread and will now add my two cents. The performance numbers of this engine as used on pretty badass fire pumps ARE listed above. 10 bhp at 6600rpm. They limit the engine to...

RE: Anyone for a 185cc two stroke?

Yep, this unit does have the rewind. It is in the 'soft' vise awaiting a re-rope to the left of the first picture. I was on my way back out from setting the points, and stopped for a smoke when I got...

RE: Anyone for a 185cc two stroke?

Nope, it is still in production as the Wildfire(once Wajax) Mk3 'wildland/urban interface' fire pump. In fact, it is considered the standard in the forest fire fighting industry for portables from...

RE: Enya 90 4C valve lash (gap)?

Good advice w8ye.

I would like to add that you can buy 'go, no go' guages from most 'better' tool companies, and that a tight(lack of lash) valve will drop compression and make most engines...

RE: Anyone for a 185cc two stroke?

Okay here are pics. The flange you can see as the big ring around the coupler on the crank in the end view photo, and butted up to the crankcase in the sideview is purely there to mount the pump it...
