RE: RC Laser

Can you find an inland lake without salt water or eel grass?
That stuff sounds terrible. It would be a mess with any real Laser, Sunfish or any other dagger board-type sailboat.
I think it might...

RE: The perfect pond?

The perfect pond right now would be one without ice covering it;)

RE: RC Laser

The first time I sailed my Laser with my new A-Rig, the wind was about 8mph and I experienced weather helm big time.
I had gathered well over 50 hours experience with the other two sails in all...

RE: RC Laser

You probably sheeted in too far, a common mistake.
Until you get accustomed to the Laser's Cat Rig, I would suggest the boom point slightly further out than the intersection of the hull and transom...

RE: RC Laser

Andy.

The fact that you could take your Laser on vacation with you is impressive.
I can take mine along too. The Laser's ease of transportation (even by aircraft) was among the considerations...

RE: Nirvana Combo for $137?

But, the Victoria DOES have a sailing/racing club just 25 miles away from OKC.
The closest Seawind fleet to me is in Wichita (150 miles).
Still, I can't get too excited with the Victoria for the...

RE: The perfect pond?

I think everything was pretty well covered above.
I would add 50-cent beer and 75-80 degree weather all year with wind speeds from 5-12 mph.
Oh yea....the water must be crystal clear with a...

RE: RC Laser

Alex.

Good to hear you got the Laser.
And, I agree that Ray is a super guy.
When you get your boat I suggest you spend some time studying the Laser web site < http://sailrclaser.com >
Go...

RE: RC Laser

Alex.

Any luck with the Laser?
I heard Ray Wright was going to the Virgin Islands this weekend to race his Vic. If you don't get a response right now, maybe its because he's already there?

RE: RC Laser

Alex.

I'm at work and won't see my personal email until I get home tonight.
You can proceed in contacting the seller of the Laser without me.
His name is Ray Wright < [email protected] >.

RE: RC Laser

I know where a brand new Laser is and the selling price is $250!
The deal includes the boat, Hitec TX/RX, Hitec servos and the standard B-Rig.
This is a new boat that has not been in the water.

RE: RC Laser

Hi Rob.

I love my Laser!
I chose the Laser because of the high winds we have here in Oklahoma. 15 mph is the average wind speed here, and that is too much for my Seawind.
My boat was ordered...

RE: Sailing location

I've heard that someone rents RC Lasers in Central Park.
They are a demanding boat, but I think you'll like them.

RE: Nirvana Combo for $137?

The price for the Hitec sounds right.
If you don't change the stock servo you will have to point the boat into the wind to sheet in.

RE: Nirvana Combo for $137?

The Tower Hobby servos that come with the combo are rated at only 42 oz/in.
That power level would serve the rudder servo only. The sail winch needs at least 100 oz/in to be effective.
I replaced...

RE: Painting Fiberglass

The last boat I painted was my tug. It is made from vacuum-injected styrene and was very plain looking in the white.
The tug's manufacturer has possibly the best model painting tips I've ever seen....

RE: Painting Fiberglass

Very frustrating indeed. Generally, when you use the same brand of paint you don't get that kind of behavior.
Maybe it was the Day Glow make-up?
Personally, I'm through with painting. I get the...

RE: What model is good?

I have a Laser and I must admit that is more demanding than any other RC sailboat I own. My other two sailboats are sloop rigs and track better on tack. But the more I sail the Laser the better I...

RE: What model is good?

I think any of the Kyosho kit boats are great.
They are easy to assemble and are of exceptional quality.
All of them are fast and sail like a real boat.
If you go to Tower Hobbies and get a...

RE: Mini-12 hulls

I'm attracted to the Fun 430.
It is larger than the Footy, but still small enough to easily transport.
The extended length, beam and freeboard would lend themselves to a more seaworthy boat in...

RE: What model is good?

I have a Kyosho Seawind and it is my favorite of the four RC boats I own.
It is a new One Design class and just getting started. If you wish to race immediately you probably should consider another...

RE: Outta my league here ....

Ballgunner.

The Futaba S3801 sail servo produces almost 160 oz/in of torque at 4.8V and over 190 oz/in at 6v.
Seawind sailboats use the S3801. It is more than adequate for it's 605 sq. inch...

RE: Sailboat steering

The Laser is sold only through a few sources and it's price remains the same. < http://sailrclaser.com >.
The running gear for a sailboat is similar to a rc car but you don't need a speed...
