RE: S/E

I wouldn't recommend the S/E as a first kit, but that is your choice. Sig makes great kits, and if you follow the manual, you will have your own "color process" as you build. As mentioned you can...

RE: Good covering jobs!

Nothing special about this Super Sportster, although it was my first two tone Monokote without using trim strips. Cutting the curved pieces of blue and yellow, to have just a 1/4" overlap required...

RE: best J-3 CUB KIT . 40 - 90

I built the GP Cub 40 version, was very pleased with the kit quality and building ease. I did make one dumb mistake. The plans called for single aileron servo with bellcranks. It flies ok, but...

RE: S/E

The best pictures are already in the instruction manual. You should read it all the way through (twice), study all the pictures, before even starting building. If you don't understand any process,...

RE: question on pinning

I will get some static on this, but I don't pin anymore, and this is why. If you pin down a bunch of warped parts, then glue, when you take out the pins, the wing will be warped. On most modern...

RE: Unbending my elevator.How?

I know what you mean by the "snap". Soak the elevator in water a few minutes , then press between paper towels/weights for a day. It will straighten out fine.

Before starting any kit, I...

RE: The Worst Headaches!

So far I just worked up a drawing with a copyright and mailed it to myself, left unopened. I should clarify that it's more of a method, process, descriptive instructions...which by law is...

RE: The Worst Headaches!

After 50 years of building, I feel I can handle any goof up in a kit, except for one.

As you know, the trend today is toward taildraggers, as seen in new kits, and many conversions of older...

RE: LT-40 Customization

Jim,,I'm glad you started a new thread for your pics, mine is getting too long. It did serve its purpose which was to collect ideas, but now I'm into the building/completion phase.

You did a...

RE: LT-40 Century Model

Thanks for the encouragement, and the reminder about the low wing loading. I keep forgetting the LT has more wing area than most 40s. It even exceeds my GP 40 Cub which weighs 7 pounds. (I put a...

RE: LT-40 Century Model

Thanks for posting the pics.

My LT is almost ready to cover, waiting for some hardware from Tower. The plane has been a joy to build, all parts fit perfectly and the wood was excellent quality...

RE: Sig Kavalier

My only advice is to read the manual completely through (twice) before starting. Build it exactly as instructed, take your time and build it straight. Forget modifications on your first kit, just...

RE: almost time to fly (pics)

I think the red looks neat, and as I always say...it's your plane you can have any color you want. Cubs are a blast to fly. Anyone who says Cubs are boring just hasn't flown one.

Good job

RE: Differential Aileron

The topic is about differential (on a Cub), and I indicated that diffy was helpful on a Cub, or most high wing trainers. These planes fly slower, therefore at a higher angle of attack where down...

RE: Where can I find a good 1/5 scale pilot?

Williams Brothers makes a 1/5 scale Sportsman pilot, available from Tower #WBRQ2485. Price about 5 bucks. Check Tower website for pics.

RE: Help With Motivation to Build

I'm working on my 100th plane, and frankly I'm sick of building, sanding, tweaking, covering, etc. My next plane may be an ARF. A friend ordered the Tower Trainer Mk II 40 ARF, only 69 bucks,...

RE: Differential Aileron

Just means the amount of up deflection and down deflection are "different". You need more up than down. say 1/2" up, 1/4" down. A down deflected aileron creates drag, tends to make the plane yaw...

RE: Help With Motivation to Build

Yesterday I was very motivated to hinge the ailerons on my LT-40. Things went great. But tonight I'd rather just drink a couple beers and forget the thing. It's hard to stay motivated in the...

RE: Tiger 60 moving forward ! but s l o w l y

If you are using "CA" hinges, you make the slots first and trial fit the hinges then you remove them for covering. You have to cut away the covering to re-install and glue the hinges.

The...

RE: LT-40 Century Model

A tail wheel assembly that mounts to the rudder will not last long. You should get an assembly that bolts or screws to the bottom of the fuse with a "tiller" arm. Then you can run either pull...

RE: How do you get back to building if you've lost interest?

I was distracted from RC for about 6 years, just now getting back into it. I think it's good to enjoy other forms of recreation.

For now you are just taking care of some high priorities in...

RE: LT-40 Century Model

Hi Ugo
Sorry you had to wade through so much to get here :) As you have noticed, I am sorta long winded lol.

Normally I wouldn't do this much research, but it is my "100th" plane, hope I...

RE: LT-40 Century Model

The LT-40 kit arrived this morning. After a thorough check of the parts, I have to say it is by far the best kit I have ever bought. Every piece is of perfect quality, pre-shaped, sawn, die-cut,...
