RE: Tree Hopper

Hi Carl,

That's an interesting find. I'll have to dig up that issue of RCM and read it again. That article is what inspired me to get a Treehopper.

One modification I've been contemplating...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Thanks for the report amj! Good job. I was interested in hearing about the stab situation. My plane required a couple clicks of right aileron and my next move was to check incidences on the stab....

RE: Treehopper Twin

Good job, Ben! Way to go! You can feel good that you did something different by building a twin and being successfull at it! Sounds like it's a winner....

RE: Tree Hopper

Hi Chicks,

One way to do this is to use the capabilities of your radio by "mixing" two channels into one. Instead of running both elevator servos through a Y harness, one servo is plugged into...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Hi Kallem,

I have not flown my Extra 2.12 yet so maybe someone else who actually has some first hand knowledge and experience with the CG on this plane will step in and comment. Until they do, I...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Hi Andres,

I don't have the weight as my gear is mounted with pants and wheels attached but here are some rough dimensions (pardon the use of both inches and mm):

The gear is in two pieces...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Hi Rob,

I thought about doing what you are saying, that is, rotate the washers 90 degrees and then mill for the up thrust. As I understand it, the second jig would be a little more complicated...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Whew! Yes they are, er...pretty close. Thanks, that makes me feel better! [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

In my mind, I think the change in airflow over the wing/stab (prop blast/airspeed changes)...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Woops. [sm=what_smile.gif]Last night I realized that I messed up and was saying 1 1/2 degree upthrust where the instructions actually call for 0.5 to 0.75 degrees. Sorry for any confusion.[&o]

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Thanks Nick,

I appreciate the feedback and was interested to hear what you did.

So I wonder, ideally, if those washers I have should really be cut to 5 degrees total (3 1/2 for right...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Thanks FM. I believe I understand what you're saying. I only plan to use the 3 1/2 degree washers to keep the base of the standoffs parallel to the the tapered washers; flat washers (of a yet to be...

RE: Composite-arf NEW 2.1 Extra !!

Those double carbon horns look nice.

I'm glad that BaldEagle and frisconick (I believe) posted info earlier regarding the engine firewall offset dimensions or I would have probably walked right...

RE: Tree Hopper

Congratulations, Craig! Glad to see someone else get airborne with their Treehopper. Nice job keeping the weight down to 13 lbs. too. Looks good.

RE: Tree Hopper

Hi Ben,

I'm tempted to put mine on floats too. A guy in the club says the plane is just itchin' to have floats on it.

Wow, 12" on each wing! Were I to build another, I'd be tempted to...

RE: Tree Hopper

Hi Craig,

I wouldn't call it a "floater" but there seems to be enough wing to do the job. It definately doesn't fly like a .40 size airplane and you can tell it has some mass, but I don't feel...

RE: Tree Hopper

I'm not so bold as to say that the following is the way to go; it's just what's working for me right now. Here is what I came up with on my Tree Hopper:

CG (empty) = about 4 1/4" aft of the...

RE: Tree Hopper

Hi All,

Chicks5: Ben's comment on the throws sounds about what I used; it will probably be next week sometime (I'm out of town right now), but I'll plan on putting my Treehopper together and...

RE: Treehopper Twin

Ben,

I think I was focusing more on getting the engine to run well so didn't get around to experimenting with the CG; The plane actually flew fine where I had the CG from the start and I didn't...

RE: Tree Hopper

Ben,

I've been looking at Ohio Superstar tailwheels. Do you prefer the "leaf spring" type or the "wire spring" "haigh" type? I don't know what advantage one has over the other.

RE: Treehopper Twin

Hi Ben,

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking the wing loading with two FX 91's will be about the same as the wing loading with one Zenoah G26; Two FX91's weigh about 25 oz each with muffler =...

RE: Treehopper Twin

I like the mods to your Treehopper, Ben! Looks good, especially the twin rudders (besides the twin engines). Were it me (and this may not be wise) I'd see how it flys with the current wing; if it...

Hi Craig and Ben,

Craig, looking good! Looks like a maiden flight is only a week or two away. Landing gear looks good. Like Ben, I'd be interested in seeing more pictures if you get around to...

RE: R168DP compared to the R138DP and R148DP

Thank you for the link. I had found it before but it didn't seem to tell me much except the differences that I perceived and relayed in my first post. Regarding the R168DF replacing the R127DF, I was...
