Extreme Props

Hey Fast Prop People,

What's the most extreme prop situation that anyone out there has come across? As there have been some mention of planes in the ~200 mph range, it seems that those props...

RE: Rocket launched glider

All this worry about fire is so lame. I live on a 1200 acre ranch here in cali surrounded by dry hay as far as you can see. I've flown rockets there all my life. Not little wuss estes stuff...

RE: Have YOU ever shot someone else down?

Last year I was out dynamic soaring at Parker Mountain. I had been flying for a few hours but while I was repairing, a new guy showed up on my freq. Since things are quite informal at this site I...

RE: Painting in the mold with prepreg?

I do about three coats of the standard high-temp mold release paste wax from Aircraft Spruce. So far, I've never had a part stick. I used to use PVA, but always ended up with an unsatifactory...

RE: Painting in the mold with prepreg?

I have used a laquer-based primer in molds with wet lay-ups to 180 deg F. So far no problem with that. I'm not quite sure how much it's good for, but the laquer would def be worth a try.
Let me...

RE: Project GTO. Here we go!

Hey Darrin,

Nice project. That's quite a big part.

At the USC AeroDesign lab, we are starting to play with molding wings and stuff for some fun dynamic soaring planes. But after we get...

RE: FaStEsT?

Hey So, These pylon races sounds pretty cool. Where might I find one in my area? I live in LA, and in Ventura County in the Summer. None of the clubs I know of around my house seem cool enough to...

RE: FaStEsT?

OK, that makes sense. Thanks rudeboy. So, on to the next question. How do I distinguish between the sport and racing engines? I've seen some names like West, MVVS, and Rossi thrown around here;...

RE: FaStEsT?

Thanks for the data points guys. However, I am a little bit confused as to why a gearbox wouldn't be such a good idea. I know big 4-stroke car engines (spec the 5.8L 351 Fords) and maybe that's my...

RE: FaStEsT?

How are these engines able to spin so fast? I seem to remember most OSs in the 40-60 range being rated for only 18k or so. Isn't the power peak somewhere around 17k on the .50sx for example? Has...

FaStEsT?

Hey, what's the fastest plane/engine combo that you have ever seen? I guess I'm probably asking for it, but no BS.

RE: Air whistles

I like the idea of using two whistles of slightly different frequency to get that turbine sound. Does anyone out there have a video or sound clip that shows this? Must sound wicked cool.

I'm looking for information on what kind of airfoils people have been dynamic soaring with. I know that these would probably have to be fairly thin for lowest Cd0 values. The Extreme-DS and the...
