This is what we use here in St Louis, works all the time every time as we dont bring out the John boat. The lake is over 40 acres.......... hence lots of line is needed.

sounds like it could be radio interference (glitching), check the metal to metal rubbing and make sure the pipe is as far from the antenna as possible, I keep mine 3" or so from the pipe and it works...
