RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

I roger everything Gerry says: I have a Brillelli 26 SS in mine as well. Perfect for power and balancing. Absolutely no extra weight needed. I also reinforced the area where the carbanes are mounted...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Hey flyfisher,
Here are two picture of my Hawk's cowl. As you can see, everything is nicely under the cowl. No unnecessary cut-outs.

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Well, I seem to be correct with what I assumed. He had to butcher this nice cowl to make room for the rather large carb. But if it doesn't bother you, go for it. This motor has plenty of power and is...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

flyfisher,
you may want to check for any interference of the carboretor with the cowl, before you mount the motor. As far as I know the Evo 26GT has its carb situated like a two stroke glow engine,...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Well, I finally received my rear dumb muffler for my Brillelli 26SS. As ususal Scott did a great job. The muffler fit perfectly although it's quite large for this small gasser. Since the muffler was...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

metaldriver,
A 90 in the Hawk is like a Ford Pinto with a banana in its tail pipe. Forget it :D. The minimum engine is a 120.
skinny Bob, I certainly will post pictures of the new muffler, once...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

mass balance;
I talked to Scott from Brillelli today and he is going to make me a rear dump muffler, that will fit the 26 SS I bought from him. That 26 SS is virtually the same motor BCMA is...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Here is my Hawk with its new powerhouse-a Brillelli 26SS. Switched from a FPE 1.3 to this motor. Now I need a rear dump wrap around muffler from Scott. I don't want to butcher my cowl.

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Hi hookie
Yes, my Hawk is alive and well. I am in the process of installing a brandnew Brillelli 26SS. This motor is about the same physical size as my previous FPE 1.3. Even the carburator is in...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

I used 4-40 SHCS 5/8" long and blind nuts on the inside of the fuse. In addition I securd the screws with blue Loctite. Never had a problem.

Telejojo;
I had a FPE 1.3 (21cc) in mine and...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Hey, G-Pete
You said you use a three bladed Master Airscrew 16x8 with your Evolution 26. Can you tell how much youare turning that prop. I am putting a Brillelli 26SS in my Hawk and plan to run...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Hey, Justin,
You are absolutely correct about that everybody has his own expectations regarding the power curve of an airplane engine. Here is my flight observation of my Hawk: First off, this...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

kochj,
Although a 90- four stroke will fly this plane, I don't think you would be happy with it. I finally yanked out my FPE 1.3 because its performance was not the greatest. The plane was balanced...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

I finally decided to remove my FPE 1.3 and go with a Brillelli 26. The FPE 1.3 is running too hot and is not producing enough power. I am going to put the FPE in a GSP Zero 120. Hopefully it will fly...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Hi, hookie,
glad to hear you're doing fine and enjoy your Hawk I hope as much as I do. Thanks for the tip on moving the CG back. I didn't even think about that since she is such a docile lady to...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

samprafitt,
I had the same happen to me too. They crack right at the seam. But with some extra fiberglass cloth and 30 min epoxy it's an easy fix.
Had a few more beautiful flights with my Hawk...

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

RE: P-6E Curtis hawk (build thread)

Good luck with your upcoming float fly, Wile E. Be careful, though. Waterlandings with a warbird (and that's what she is) can be tricky. No bouncy, bouncy:D Hope it works out for you. Let us know how...
