Tamiya is tougher than you think.

I suspect it uses a contactless, optical speed sensor and therefore, as long as the roller bearings don't fail, it can handle any speed you deal it. The stock tires on the Xray, on the other hand...

Popped in a 11.1V LiPoly pack into the M18 with the 5400Kv Mamba. It hit 76kph. That is 47mph. Amazing speed increase going from 7.2V to 11.1V.

P.S. Tamiya Speed Checker handled it just fine...

28.5mph is with a mild 5400Kv Mamba and a plain jane 7.2V NiMh 6 cell pack. It is a bit faster than the "stock" ratings on Castle's website (which yields 20mph.)
