RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hello Critterhunter, it's good to hear you got it all going in the end....the DC to DC converter was obviously causing some interference with the RX in the Challenger. I'm still flying video cameras,...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hello Critterhunter, I'm sorry you are having so many problems, sounds like nothing but bad luck so far. I think we should try and tackle one problem at a time. Let's go back to the simple diode /...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

No, I haven't looked for the Commander recently, I would have thought the pikeys would have got it by now. I've just been enjoying flying at new places...getting reasonably good at landing in smaller...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Sorry I took so long to reply.....been out flying this weekend.....this has been the first break in the weather for quite a few days now so I took advantage of it. The bits you have ordered are...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

That part will do fine, just checked the data sheet and it meets all requirements....I did post the part number for the 2n2 (581-MD015C222K), ages ago in post #62 I think!

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

NOTE: After reading this back it gets rather boring......just move on to the final section for info on your problem.....

I don't blame you in the least for being confused.....it IS very...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

If it makes it any easier..... Inductors....anything that physically fits above 100nH and can take around 1A, Capacitors...something around 2n2, must be ceramic......

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Yes, we are both plucking from the same tabulation! From your experiments it seems that RF noise is getting back into the X-Port and affecting range. DC to DC converters can produce an amount of...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hello critterhunter, it is possible that just the small capacitors will do the trick (the ones I specified last time), the electrolytics might work but they are not very good at high frequencies. As...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Well done critterhunter for persistance if nothing else! 11 Ounces though! Crikey! I'll look up a toroidal choke tommorow if you need one, these are 'common mode' wound which means it gets rid of...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hello Critterhunter....you're not having much luck are you! There are a few possibilities to why the DC to DC converter affects the range....a) it's a radio transmitter ....b) it's turning the wires...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

If you had no range problems before then it is possible that the DC to DC converter is either in oscillation or is producing some noise that is affecting the range.....sounds like a bit of a long...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

I recommend the Panasonic cameras (while you can still get them), or the replacement (Videology 20K14), the best place I know in the US (and I have regularly bought cameras from them even from the...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Great stuff! They certainly work better outside than inside....I thought I was going to be good for about 10 Yards from the tests done inside the house, but once in the open I still get good pictures...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

I've just been doing a few flyovers where I lost the Commander and got in pretty close, but no luck I'm afraid. Although winter is coming most of the trees around here are Evergreens, so not much is...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

No problem Critterhunter (the reason you have used this name now becomes obvious!).... The maximum current draw allowable using the NDY0509 with a fully-charged battery is 333mA, but it is best to...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hi Critterhunter! Sounds just like one of my flying days! I know exactly how you feel, the last time I flew the Commander I had a very similar experience....launched OK, big gust of wind, the plane...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Hey Randall. Fortunately I didn't have the gear on when the Commander dissapeared! So I've been flying my new Challenger over there to have a look...can't see it yet. I'll get better at flying low...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

It is certainly worth a go because it's cheap and easy. What I meant by the comment was that I am presuming that the TX and camera have regulated inputs i.e. they can take an input from 7V to 12V or...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

If I minded giving advice I wouldn't be on a Forum!

I still think the best plan is to use a DC to DC converter. However, they can be quite expensive for the wide range input types. We were quite...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

As long as the TX and camera inputs are regulated it's worth trying this simple circuit. It should reduce the noise considerably....Tim...

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

Does your camera look like the one in the picture that is enclosed? If it does then the regulator WAS in the connector. If the camera is NOT the same then we need to look for another cause.....

RE: Cam For Aerobird Challenger On The Way (Many Plane Prep Questions)

The 7805 is the one that I have already described, it is not an LDO type and requires 7V or more to regulate. Still, you might not need it yet! Wait until you get the RC stuff and we can go through...
