RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Nelson Hobby Ultracote-matching Corsair Blue is what you want. The paint is fuel proof when mixed with the supplied crosslinker.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

I don't know about your OS FS-91, but my OS 91 Surpass III pumper can run for 20 minutes at full throttle on a 14 oz tank.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

However, if you still wish to use a 3-bladed prop, then try MA 13x8 or 14x7 although I have a feeling both might be slightly too big for the OS 91.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

If you want speed, then forget about 3-bladed props. They look nice, but you will lose some noticeable efficiency.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

My OS 91 swings a Graupner 13.5x8 prop at 9600 rpm on 15% fuel, so that's pretty good speed. I don't think you want to use a prop with a higher pitch on this plane.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Another reason why I don't like CJ rotating retracts. Those little springs will lose tension over time. You really want internal metal gears to rotate the retracts.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Note that the retract angle on the full size Corsair is close to 90°. If you look at a photo of a full size Corsair, you will see that the struts are almost perpendicular to the bottom of the wing.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

I believe wheel rotation on rotating retracts is 90 degree since the wheel only rotates 90 degrees into the wheel well. Most manufacturers set the wheel rotate angle at 90 deg. This would work...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Yes, wheel rotation angle is something completely different and not related to retract angle.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Make sure you know what "retract angle" is. For this plane, it is the angle between the air cylinder and the strut when the gear is down.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Go with 95-deg. Yes, Sierra does make them at that angle. 100-deg would make the gear rake forward too much like training gear.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

I'm still working on my 109, a little at a time each day. It has been windy and raining hard here in the Pacific Northwest for the past couple of weeks. I have not flown for a couple of months, so...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

CJ retracts are just OK. I don't care for the soft pop rivets used on the scissor links and the soft metal used on the struts. Sierra retracts are much better and stronger.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

With the YS 110 in the nose, I had to add an ounce of lead in the tail to balance the plane.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Both of my H9 Corsairs have the same wing-to-fuse mismatch problem. Others had the same problem also. When you set the fuse onto the wing, you don't see the centersection is sticking out on yours?

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Yep, it's true. H9 is bringing out a Corsair with flaps.

On my H9, the wing centersection at the mating surfaces is noticeably wider than the fuselage when viewed from the top. I don't...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Thanks. I think I will wait for the new and improved H9 Corsair with flaps, which should be out between April and May. I certainly hope they fixed the mismatch between the wing centersection and...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

On paper, that Corsair on eBay appears to be very stout, with maple rails for the landing gear and sheeted tail feathers. I am tempted to get one, but shipping is $100.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

You can download the manual from Horizon website. The plane will fly very nice with the CG between 4 1/4" and 4 1/2" back from the wing leading edge.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

I would go with either Century Jet or Sierra 95° rotating retracts. I currently have Sierra 100° retracts on my Super Corsair, and the gear rake too far forward for my taste. I'm going to replace...

Here is a video showing the pneumatic retracts in operation on my second H9 Corsair: Slow Retracts

That happens to be a Saito 150. A YS 120 or YS 140 would sound just as good, perhaps even better.
