I still have my Rare Bear, haven't flown it for several years and decided to pull it out and get it air worthy again. I'm currently replacing...

About the wing profile, I don't have any idea what NACA profile TT used for this model. When I rebuilt the landing gear mounts on my 1st generation TT Rare Bear, I traced the rib pattern using copier...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Tom,

I don'ty have any photos of the new paint scheme, like you, the only ones I've seen are the teaser pics at their website. I haven't actively looked at 4-bladed props, but I do reacll APC...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Tom,

I don't recall the Spring Air Model #, they are 85 degree with 3/16" wire legs, mains only. If my RB survives the rest of the flying season I'm planning on doing some upgrades, one of which...

Resurrecting an old thread...

Is anybody still flying one of these, particularly the original version with the weak stabs ?

The guys at my field had been asking me about my RB, we had a...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

No there isn't, the trailing / leading edges of the horiz stab / elevators is ~ 4mm thick. Same issues with the wings / ailerons, but maybe 5mm thick. When I assembled my Rare Bear, I opened up the...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Medium CA isn't enough. You need to review the earlier sections of this thread for recommendations on how to reinforce the langing gear mounts. I did the same mods that Vampire recommended and it...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

I just did a search of RCU for the Thundertiger F8F Bearcat and the September Fury. I didn't find too much and nothing indicating there is a large demand for these two ARFs from Ace / Thundertiger.

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Unlike Bignasdy, I didn't even bother calling Ace about the problems with my early edition Rare Bear, simply due to the fact that it was widely reported Ace seemed indifferent to the problem. The...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Frag,

Great Video of your maiden flight, too bad about the landing mishap.

On my maiden flight my RB exhibited the same tail heavy flight characteristic when perfectly balanced per the...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Ad Clark III,

Thanks for providing your RB's airspeed with the O.S. 1.60. Ditto for confirming the whistling sounds. Looks like I need to acquire an O.S. 1.60 to replace the ASP 1.08 that's in...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Rare Bear Mechanic,

Thanks for the great pics of the real deal.

To All,

I managed to induce a snap on landing, nothing serious, just a little over zealous elevator during the flare...

Biggles2,

So sorry to hear about the loss of your RB. Sounds like you had it pretty well sorted and was just getting really comfortable with the handling charateristics.

Here's a pic of...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

That hasn't been my experience with the RB. In fact I've found the RB to be very docile right up to the stall, then the nose sort of falls over. The plane doesn't do the ugly snap inverted auger in...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Easystern,

Here are a few pics I took of the new retract mounts I designed for my TT RB. The ribs were produced using tracings of the original ribs. I widened the retract mount fore/aft and...

Well I finally got around to finishing the repairs (new retract mounts) on my RB and had decent weather this past Sunday. I flew the plane 3 times without incident, the 2nd and 3rd flights included...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

Biggles2,

Sorry to hear about the retract problems. I've had probelms with my gear, but not due to the retracts. I couldn't keep the junk factory mounts in the wings for more than two flights /...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

bignasdy,

I didn't use the stock TT Retracts, I had a set of Spring Air 85 degree -3/16" wire that I used in place of the stock mechanical junk. The 5/32 wire in the TT retracts isn't stiff...

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

I installed a NIB Redhead ASP 1.08 ABC with a Bisson Pitts muffler in my Rare Bear. I'd estimate level flight speed at about 95MPH and I haven't had any problems with my stabs with about 10 flights....

Where in Texas are you located ?? For some reason your Avitar looks very familiar, like I might have seen a pic of your FW-190 (Is it a Pica Kit ?) in one of the LHS in Houston.

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear

If you don't follow the published documentation to the letter, Ace can say you didn't build the model correctly. This would include installing an engine larger than the recommended sizes. It's...
