It's not only the additional resistance. Long leads between the battery and the ESC allow high voltage spikes to occur, potentially damaging the ESC.

Using long clip leads is known to cause problems by creating extra resistance in the circuit. You won't really know how your power system is performing until you have the proper length conductors,...
