RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I have the DA 50, lighter CF spinner, and PT models 22X8 prop (lighter than a Mejzlik). My ignition battery and ignition are on the side of the engine box, my tank is CG-mounted, and my two rx...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

You need to use epoxy. Just brush a thin layer very deaply into the woodgrains on the stab where it will bond to the fuse, like with a squeegee, then slide the stab almost in place. In other words,...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Lost my AJ due to equipment failure.
Pull the trigger on this baby, but keep it light. IMO, it needs to be under 15 pounds to REALLY fly well.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

What prompted you to do the pull-pull? Unless you are using the minimum recommended engine (OS160), you pretty much need the rudder servo back there, and its easier than a pull-pull...just wondering....

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Don't use robart hinges. the subspars at the hingeline are only about 5/16-3/8" thick. You really need about 5/8" for proper installation of robarts, IMO. ARF's designed for Robarts have balsa filler...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

That's fine. I am currently only using the screws with no problem (don't want to glue it yet because I may put a featherlight pilot in it). My point with the tape is it looks cheesy and can pull...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Not to offend, but that's the way you mount a canopy on a 40 size sport plane!
Get the canopy in place where you want it and tape it down in a few spots. Draw around the perimeter with a fine...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Again, keeping this plane light will help prevent that. The wing failure that I know of was on a 16+ pound plane, and that was the dry weight...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

What engine are you using and was this the result of flight fatigue or a botched landing???

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Yeah, what he said! Personally, I just used the supplied CA hinge material, but more of it.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

The same amount as they call for in CA hinges, but one good tip would be to double-up at the tips of each aileron. IOW, instead of putting just one hinge at each end, put another right beside it.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Anyway, I put flights number 2 and 3 on mine yesterday morning(flight #1 was back in January!) and started "feeling it out". As far as biplanes go, I think it is as good as it gets, but compared to...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Biggest mistakes I see in TR attempts is the wrong inputs when the belly is facing you. To help "learn" the correct inputs, fly the tail of the airplane: if the tail is drifting to the right, move it...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Hovering is boring anyway - let it torqueroll. It looks cooler and is more challenging. In a no wind situation, hovering without torquerolling will be a bit more difficult with this plane due to the...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

mine's 14 pounds, 9 ounces, with only a dual aileron servo mod instead of the quad setup. It probably saved 4 ounces. However, I am running 1100mah nimh's (3 total), and could have easily gone with...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

It's actually 10mm - just to clarify. Not that it matters because the first thing anyone should do with this spinner is use it as a wheel chock under a dumptruck tire!
Go with the lightened TT or...

If you decide to use the CA hinges, buy some of that extra hinge material that Great planes sells. Basically, do exactly as the GP Ultimate instructions state except go with 1"X2" strips of hinge...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Their balance feature is nothing like what you are talking about. They claim to only balance the voltage between each of your battery packs, not indevidual cells. Personally, I find it more of a...
