have a look at the nut on the side of the carb. It's the one that holds the rotating part on. If it is loose your car will still run but it rev up when you let go of the throttal and only idle...

I have spent the last month converting all my rotostart engines into pullstarts cus the rotostart was doing my head in (basically i got bored of charging the batteries and one of my rotostarts chewed...
