No special considerations for a shorter hi-start. I have two. One is 100 feet of rubber and 400 feet of line. The other is 25 feet of rubber and 100 feet of line.

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

e-bay has been the cheapest place I have found latex tubing.  I have purchased there several times to make hi-starts.

Light 3M planes, say under 65 ounces, can be launched with 5/16 latex tubing. ...

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

Bungee cord, the fabric covered cord, is terrible or launching gliders. I don't recommend it at all.

Also you say "small diamater" which means it probably is too weak.

You need Latex tubing,...

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

Working by feel is great when you are an experienced pilot. But when you are new, having a reference point, provided by a scale, can be an excellent training tool.Knowing how it should feel when it...

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

Either those boys are getting bigger or the planes are getting smaller. ;)

From my experience, you have to seriously miss match the hi-start and the plane to risk wing damage from a hi-start. But...

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

You don't need a fancy scale. A cheap fish scale is all you need.

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

Get yourself a scale, typically a fish scale and see how much pull you are getting. Your Aspire probably weighs 2 to 2.5 pounds. So you want a pull on the hi-start of 6-12...

RE: Learning to use a hi-start

When using a hi-start you can adjust how much pull by the distance you walk back. It is not necessary to pull back 3X the rubber length for every plane.

My hi-start is a pinnical XL, which...
