Are you sure gyro on aileron is a good idea? If you have an engine out and subsequent swing/roll, the aileron gyro will tend to give opposite aileron, which could lead to a tip...

Regarding the expanding foam idea, some of these are pretty aggressive - be sure you're not going to bow the skins outward from the pressure of the foam.
