RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey fellow CARF Spitfire builders,

I will be using the 3W85xi in my plane together with the scale exhaust system from Keleo.
My engine has the same centered spark plug as the DA85 and since...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey Lazy eight,

Great job on the tailwheel install, I have the C-ARF non steerable version and will give it a try. If I'm not satisfied with it after the initial flights I know what to do...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey lazy eight,

Thank you for posting those pictures, I think it looks great!
I can see that I have to buy the kit with the inner gear doors from Ziroli even though I can't use all of it. I...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey Lazy Eight,

Thanks for showing this, I suspected that this could be done with the larger scoop but it was great to see it in place.
This is the reason for me thinking about which way to...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you.
I know Kelvin at Keleo since many years and he is a great guy!
He always has a lot of work to do and sometimes it can take a little more time than...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey lazy eight, I know exactly what you mean.
I always like to keep things simple (if possible) and for me the JTEC muffler is a "plan B" if I find it too difficult to make a reasonable solution...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Wow lazy eight!

I think it looks awesome!
The exhaust pipes will not disturb the shape of the airplane much.
Perhaps you can paint them with some heat resistant light grey paint with...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hey Lazy Eight,

The stuff from sierra looks great! Really nice spinner and I see that you are going for the steerable tailwheel. I will use the C-ARF tailwheel (castor action), we'll see how...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Aussie,

I will follow your progress with the Keleo exhaust in the Spitfire since I've got my mind set on that piece of art solution as well.
It will take me approx. 1,5-2 months before I can...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hi Spitfire enthusiasts,

It's been a good week! (At least the last few days...) :D
Yesterday I received the landing gear (really nice!), wheels, tailwheel and the airkit for the Spitfire.

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

The little 'lip' in front of the air outlet is a great idea, I read about how efficient this is when planning the build of a 2,6m C-ARF Edge 540. After some serious thinking I decided to go for the...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

I have been thinking about that aswell.
Warm/hot air always wants to rise, how about making the cockpit with an open floor and also building a sliding canopy?
The original aircraft often landed...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hi Aussie,

Yes, the thought of making the hole in the shape of a "T" has entered my mind.
I also have an idea of using a thin threaded metal net painted grey as the underside of the cowl.

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Perhaps Lazy Eight can help you/us with the engine offset since he already mounted a DA85 on his plane. (see post #28 and #19)
My rep is using a 3W85CS and I will be using a 3W85xi so I guess I...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Hi Aussie Roo,

I just emailed my rep and asked him what he is using as heat protection in the fuse.
I'll get back to you on this as soon as I have an answer.

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

No worries mate,

Geir posted some pictures in one of the other C-ARF Spitfire threads and of course I downloaded them to my picture library.
Looking at the pictures it seems like the pipes...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

My rep, Geir Flesche have a nice cooling solution on his Spit.
He has two lightweight pipes (not sure what they are made of) inside the scoop (in front of the wing) pushing in cool air in front of...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

I also did some searching and found this:

Built by Vickers-Armstrong at Castle Bromwich in early 1944. To 8 MU on March 1st. To 602 Sqn on August 24th, then to 442 (Canadian) Sqn until April...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

G'day mate!

I totally agree with you on the invasion stripes, I will paint my Spit as the TL-B that still is flying at Duxford.
I have a 3W 85 that will swing a 3-bladed Biela 25x10 prop and...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Sorry Lazy, I just ordered my Spit without the resin exhaust stacks since I just have to go for the functional exhaust system...
Now I just have to figure out how to sneak a $500 investment past...
