If he gets intrested in something bigger and more mainstream have him check into and get a T-Hawk! I got one anout 3 weeks ago and learned to fly 3 channel with it. AWESOME plane and value!

10 x 15 is really pushing it IMHO, my backyard is about 40' x about 60' and I easily fly it there. Go to a bigger area and HAVE FUN!

I don't care for Lipos right now, too much risk IMHO but with the AA we have no choice. Keep the plane DRY.

Give it time to dry out completely BEFORE attempting to fly. It may be toast now though...

They are for the rudder and/or flaps. You put the sticker over the middle of the creases to hold them in position if you have to trim the plane. Hope I explained it clearly enough.
