RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

This thread has a report that their engine when mounted was pointing THE WRONG WAY A LOT.

I've seen a couple of these H9 Corsairs. Every one had engine thrust lines that were what almost...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

A lot of people do that.
A lot of people would have a better flying plane if they maidened it that way, which is what the mfg's CG and throw recommendations are for, and then just gave the plane a...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

I don't know how his looks, but my shimmed forward gear now doesn't make it completely into the wheel wells. If you've got 90* gear, it's going to do what it's going to do. And that's hang out in...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

bore anyone?

Nah, they look like mine. Get the wood between the top and bottom sheeting and they'll really, really add strength to that wing. A large proportion of a wing's strength comes...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

I scaled out mine from the 3-view in a Profile, but they didn't look right. Turns out our gear leg length differs enough to cause the problem.

So I just scratched out a stand off scale shape...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

Much the same advice..........

The forward CG often does a number on us without our realizing it. It expecially hurts taildraggers. The gear has to be moved farther forward and we wind up with...

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair

No doubts about power. The H9 planes in this group fly perfectly on 60 2-cycles. The ASP .91 should have that power.

As for a good CG, that's up to you. How much heavier is your 91 and...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

The safe range is 4.25"-5.5"

Yours is decent.

By pitch sensitive, if you mean it's got a sensitive elevator, then reduce it's throw.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

If it's a gas engine, yup, washers between the top couple of mounts and the fire wall. The mounts are usually a set of posts. A washer each for the top two and test. Not enough, a couple of...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

All my H9s show that tendency on take off. I noticed one day a pause that helped. After lining up at the start, I roll enough throttle in to get 'em rolling, just rolling. And pause the throttle...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Sorry to throw you off by mentioning both the full scales and the models. The models happen to be like the full scales in one aspect. What makes both the fullscales perform differently and the...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Every Hellcat has great vertical?

It's a function of which engine is installed and the prop it's spinning. Also a function of how heavy the model was built.

In real life, the two...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

The struts come only partly assembled. The inserts are loose in the package and the top of the strut is open. You have to shorten the top of the strut to your needed length, then drive the insert...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Open in front of whatever you wish to cool. Openings elsewhere actually hurt, not help.

The exhaust area should be 1.4 times larger than the intake area. And when you have limited exhaust...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

The engine is quite forward in the cowling. And the fake engine has to be removed in front of the carb on any engine. So you can always get a finger into there to choke. Even if you couldn't, the...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Getting the Robart struts hooked up to any mechanism requires the modeler be able to cut metal accurately, press a very tight fitting into place, and drill and tap. That'd have to be done to use...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

I bought a replacement set for under $30 awhile back. The set ought to be pretty cheap still.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Looks a lot better with that flat finish. And the pilot certainly adds to the realism.

The gear doors are a good touch. How did you get yours to work with the gear. Looks like Robart...

Yeah, of course I meant the TX. I was focused on trying to subtly get across the fact that this guy had setup his TX "backwards" for the exponential. JRs expo is set for how much expo you want. ...

Gotta show off the gear doors. Got 'em just about done. One more 10 minute task and we'll see how they work at the field.

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

About the CG on my Corsair........
I ran the numbers through Geistware to get the range. It gave me 4.25" to 5.4" for the range. I balanced mine around that 5.4". The field I fly off of mostly...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Change the H9 struts for Robart struts and still use the H9 mechanisms?
Yes
It isn't real easy to remove the H9 struts from the H9 mechanisms. They're held in with C-clips and of course lock...

RE: Hangar 9 60 size corsair arf

Scraped the wing taxiing??? On my H9's the OEM struts are rubbery. With those struts, turns sway and wobble. Heck, with the airplane just sitting in the pits, try pushing it sideways. It'll sway...
