RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

It probably will work with an OS55AX and a selected prop. Work good as a trainer for flying heavy scale models. And it'll be popular with lots of newbies, who will learn to pick their next...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Not a puzzle at all.

The stuff packed in their ARF differed. Not odd at all that parts differed from the ARF manufacturer, parts that weren't assembled on a jig.

Those nose gear struts are...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Check your nose gear length. If the wing AOA is the least bit negative, it'll create downforce on the takeoff roll and downforce is only good for auto racing. A couple of them have shown up at the...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

BTW, the Raptor "trainer" is a HUGE example of modelers winning out over the hobby industry that's feeding us nowadays. I've flown a number of the originals. Setup as described by the factory to...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

No

A lot of people have seen exactly what you saw. Some have seen worse.

The airplane needs more power than what the mfg puts on the RTFs. Actually, it needs more "pull", power is just...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

It's possible, but only if the engine can turn the extra rpm and needs to.

If the 11x7 was overly loading the engine (and 12.5K doesn't sound like it) you would have noticed a very obvious...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Yeah, it LOOKS great.

You can now buy them on ebay for near half the original price. For $200 you get an almost RTF with everything. Everything from the radio down to the tires. Only problem...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

But it appears to be available on ebay for about $200 for the RTF setup.

A flying buddy showed up with one last week. Wanted me to maiden it for him. He's not a newbie but was all excited...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

What prop are you using on that .61 in your Raptor.

Do you have a picture of it? Would love to see a picture of that airplane with a 60 on it.

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Next time you want servos that might wind up in the wing as aileron or flap servos.................

The HS-225BB is about a $22 servo. It's got about 20% more power than standard servos...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

That sounds like a great thing to try out. And the excellent thing about this hobby is that it's often very easy for us to try out stuff. Matter of fact, it's often the very best way to get answers...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

If your CG is 7 and the manual says 6.25 is the rearmost safe CG, you need to think hard about flying that airplane before you shift that CG back into the safe range.

Now, you've just said your...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

If it's suited as a trainer, why would you have to ask instructors if they thought it would work as one?

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Don't plan on getting unlimited vertical. And especially don't expect it from a 7.5 pound 46size model. Most of my 46 size are around 5 and a half, and the Ultimate is 4lb 9oz.

I just did...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

FLIGHTJOCKEY,
That is awesome. It deserves a thread of it's own. Got a couple of somewhat unique ideas in it.

It really should have a thread of it's own.

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

I'm not trying to claim anything. I recounted an experience with the RTF and my opinions of that airplane as trainer. Answered some questions and made some general suggestions.

Go argue with...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

How big a prop?
Whatever the flying field and the engine both allow.
Of the three grass fields I fly, my experience with the Raptor was at the closest cut. We went up in diameter 1" and the...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

Swapping props isn't that simple. The airplane I encountered yesterday has gear that limits the fan size. I suggested to the owner and his mechanic that they bend new gear for the airplane for two...

RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS

I just buddy boxed an beginner who brought his new Raptor out to learn to fly on.

I've got a couple of observations.

It was a warm day. Density altitude was about 1500' and that airplane...
