My advice, if you think you're going to be around for a while, get the best radio you can reasonably afford.

7C is a mid level radio, on par with a DX7

The 8 and 10 series radios are a step...

6 will work in most applications though I have models with more. Its not only the number of channels but the depth of programming, ball bearing gimbals etc that you get with the higher end radios.
