RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

That may have been due to flutter.

The large tail surfaces are prone to this at higher speeds than the plane was designed for....

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Interesting... that's exactly how my first one went in.

The CA hinges that are provided deteriorate after a year or so and will crack and break.

I recommend using somebody else's CA hinges,...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

I see 80% quoted all the time in different E-Flyer magazines, as a quick way to check if your motor to prop ratios are OK.

The idea is to leave enough overhead for the motor to unload, but not...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Yeah I've seen this mistake made on many a plane... including some of my own...

On a static test your prop RPM's on a direct drive should be, what, around 80% of the motors KV rating x supply...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Use a 9x6E APC prop with your motor and ESC.

You'll get excellent flight times ( 20+ minutes ) and fantastic performance.

The comments I get with a similiar setup...

"Gee that flys...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

The "stock" motor is a brushed motor, so you could not use your ESC with it.

You CAN use LiPo's with the stock motor and the stock ESC, if you flip the 3 position jumper on the ESC to the other...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

That motor is fine... however you'll be pulling an easy 20C with it. ( I'd go ahead and use a 9x6 prop for a bit more power... )...

That means your batteries will tend to sag under load, so it...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Why not press thos blind nuts in fully?

They will dig into the wood as is?

The mount should be a bit thicker, and at worst you could add a small wooden ring for the blind nuts to dig into,...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Hmmm....

7x5 @ 10.8V / 32A / 15572rpm = 345.6 watts
8x4 @10.5V / 40.1A / 14713rpm = 421 watts
8x6 @ 7V / 31.8A /9685rpm with 2S lipo = 222.6 watts.

"Current range for this motor is...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

It seems like everyone arrived to the same point on this plane to turn it into a great flyer...

Like minds.... ;)

I didn't have to add any weights on mine though.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

If you have G3/G3.5/G4, well have a new model up on the swap pages in a few days specifically for the SS EP ( no add-ons, etc. required ) that models all of the different configurations and...

Arcticflyer

You may find that with this combo you'll forgo all desire to put in a nitro engine. ( Though I also like glow/gas engines ).

I've had electric guys at my field in awe of the SS...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Not at all.

The default power system is simply too anemic for this plane.

With either of the suggested configurations the plane comes alive, but it certainly doesn't overpower it too much....

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Yup no problems.

Since you are running them together even a 15C battery suffices, and the 21C gives you that much more of a safety margin.

I've also run 3800 3S batteries in the plane and...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

I posted another thread on how I'm getting about 30 minutes flight time on my SS EP with a .30 equivalent brushless motor.

By sacrificing a bit of time for more power ( about 22 minutes on my...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Even chucking the motor, it's still a good buy. But yeah if they could take away the cost of the motor and ESC, it would be a fanastic electric ARF.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

It comes with the motor.

You could elect to use the included motor if you want or transfer it to say a sailplane.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

Looks like I'm going to have to try a higher pitch prop...

I've been using 9x6 and 10x7's.

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

I also purchased the T-600 w/ESC, and decided not to install it after seeing the post about the 300/400 watt motor.

What can I do now with the T-600 and associated hardware including batteries....

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

While I purchased the Electrifly combination (mistake), after I saw the post about E-bay I ran accross this

This is EXACTLY the same...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

I was trying to get the specs for the C-30 ESC included with the Electrifly kit.

I noticed that this ESC was once rated as one of the "silver" Electrifly ESC's... googling a bit I...

RE: Great Planes Super Sportster EP with Modified Power System

I saw this post and couldn't resist.

I ordered the 400W version of the above with the 60AMP ESC from the same site.

I already have a bunch of Lipos with matching connectors so this was what...
