Try increasing the mv cut off point in the setup menu (say 12-15mv for Nicad). Reduce to charge rate to around 0.5C and see how the charge goes. False peaks can be a problem on older batteries and...

Not necessarily as most MKII's seem to be ok.

Run a few basic tests on old and new battery packs. (NiCad & Nims) Check they charge to their capacity or 10-15% over with charger stating the word...

Here is a bit of useless info that I have found and tested on the 601

Fan with stop approx every 2mins. This is because the charger stops to measure the battery volt drop for around 5 seconds....

This charger is really a copy of the Bantams with the e station 6 being close to the amount of functions offered on the 601. As you rightly said I also believe they share the same charging processor....

These chargers seem to be a bit of a lottery.
Some seem to work ok, others are totally unreliable. The units are probably blown together in china for under $10 and the quality control is just not...

A fairly low value in the region of 50 ohms should do the trick however I would experiment. Let your wife be the judge :D
Fan should run nice and quiet at around 6-8 volts.

The 601BC has more features than the Bantum 5 and similar one's to the B6. I would rate the 601 in between the B5 and B6.
If money was not an issue Iā€™d go for the B6 however the 601 represents...

No real problems with this charger other than a very poor manual. Download the Bantum 6 charger manual as this charger has most of it's features. (They must use the same Processor) The 601BC has...

Similar but not the same.
This unit has Discharge & Cycle modes on all types of batteries.
Also Delta Peak settings and Trickle charge settings as well as the 10 memories. Also a cooling fan.
