Ive never had an issue with the fins except when they were damaged on my maiden.
I believe what you heard was the tail cone hitting the tarmac.

Im really no help as to why you may have got a bad needle valve assembly but I can provide some numbers for you to compare.
My stock OS 91, minus the muffler baffle, spinning a 12x8 will turn well...

When I calculated the CG for Ver.3 I noted the CG at 25%, 30% and 33% MAC based on my CAD work.

KC, your definitely not the odd man out. My switch is also mounted on the upper rear left side of the fuse, but no charge jack or black on/off plate. All you see is the switch lever and two washers...

Dont forget that the 3rd version also had the CG wrong in the destructions. I dont know if cermark has put an adendum in the instructions yet or not? The magic number is 7.50 to start. NOT 8.50.
