That brushles motor should do fine, you need some weight to penetrate the wind, I have one. Get it up high near parking lots or areas that genrate heat. The heat rises and will lift the tip of one...

The Upstar comes with a 9.6 V 1800 Mah NiMh battery. It has an auto cutoff to let you have power to control the radio before the motor uses it all up. My guess is the battery is not up to full...

Werner here's what some guys are using to get 1000 ft per min climb. AXI 2808-24 BL motor with 3s2100 mah lipo. Try the 8X4 prop.Saves a bunch of weight there about 12-14 oz lighter, also you can go...

I purchased an Upstar before reading these posts. My ESC had a plug to select NiMh or Lipo . I assembled plane per instructions and took it up for a flight. Time under full power about 10 minutes....

Just a note on the jumper. Mine was switchable from Lipo to NiMH with the jumper. This may be why it was cutting off too early. I ordered a new one from my LHS hopefully they have got it figured out...
