RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Cory,

There are some photos on the Keleo website, here's the link: http://www.keleo-creations.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=13

I am using this set up but modifying it a bit - not using...

Hey David,

Don't hold back mate, why don't you tell us what you really think?! Difference of opinion is fine, encouraged even, but some common politeness to ones fellow aeromodeller cost nothing...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Cory,

400 feet - 121.920 metres - should be fine in your layout with no obstructions either end of your runway. do you have a fence at the end of your 400 foot run - say, 1 metre high? if that's...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

The short update is, it will all work, so if you're wondering whether or not to buy it, relax - it will fit. Kelvin has now put some excellent instructions up on his website too.

I'm using a...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

G'day Scotty,

I'm a JR/Hitec guy so I'm not sure about the Futaba gear. However on this build I'm using the Hitec 7955TG (titanium gear) - at 6.0v 23kg-cm (333.3oz-in). 2 for elevators (one...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Tim,

I think you'll find that enough companies have made after market parts specifically for this model that you shouldn't have a problem.

If you haven't had any experience with CARF models...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Thanks Tobbe, that's very reassuring! Did you put in any engine side thrust or down thrust? I've noticed that the fin appears to be slightly offset so maybe that does away with any need for side...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Thanks Tobbe, that's great.

Have you any tips about flying characteristics? I'm especially keen to know if the CoG is correct, and if it has any tip stall tendencies!

Would love to hear...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Also, re flying characteristics there are two videos on Youtube of Geir Flesche's comp arf Spitfire. Both videos are compressed so the shape looks a bit 'squat' which is a shame but otherwise it flys...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Welcome aboard Mothy, plenty of room for another. Tally Ho.

My build has stalled a bit while I rebuild my workshop but I'm keeping up with events - I think. Not much feedback on flying...

Ouch! A few issues here.

If you can wait till tomorrow I'll post a couple of photos and measurements for you. Basically Yes, I think the 100 will fit. There will be a bit of work involved in...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Why are you so worried about a bit of an engine sticking out when you already plan to have a very un-scale pitts muffler hanging in the breeze? ;-)

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

I'm sorry to hear that Lazy Eight, that must have been one tough call. I hope your fortunes change for the better real soon. is there any chance of a few photos of progress so far before you hand the...

Thanks Dave,

Are you going to use the Keleo scale exhaust in your new CARF version of the Spitty?

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

I agree with you, slightly nose heavy at first. But what then of Crashproof's story of having to take 5 lbs of lead OUT of the nose to stop his Spit nosing over? May be I'll start 1/4" forward of...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Thanks Kevin. A very revealing tale! And I hope kinda vindicates my hesitation at not immediately accepting the suggestion to move the CoG on the CARF Spit forward by 1/2 inch until someone who's...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Yep, that's what Lazy Eight said. But one report of one person saying that someone told him .... in my view is not verification. Until I hear directly from someone who's actually flown the model and...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

G'day Marty,

I am using a DA-85 and the scale exhaust system from Keleo. I have had to cut a small hole in the cowl to clear the spark plug cap. The only way around this would be to get a custom...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Thanks JDP, you read my mind. I was thinking just that as I read your previous post. Bit of a shame if it's a toss up between the scale exhaust and a cockpit.I suppose I'll just have to install half...

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER

Well you've also got me thinking too about the Dynamic Balsa cockpit kit - it sure is great detail. If I hadn't already bought the one from Ty I'd definately get it, but what would I do with a...
