Out of the factory SE5s are glossy. Slick may be better term. They were not trying to make them glossy like a new car as they knew how to polish paint for that look.

If that statement was true then shiny Monokote would look good on a WW1 plane. One may like it but they are WRONG!:)

I say semi gloss. Paint, varnish, dope were for protection of the surface. Old style Flat paint is terrible at protection; it is porous. Gloss with old paint is brought out by polishing; too time...
