RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

I'll stick to listening and learning. I too would not have believed some of the stuff I've seen on this thread could fly but built it and saw for myself.

Critterhunter, if they are that out...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

I would do it in stages if it is deep. I haven't used it to fill big holes, just imperfections and shallow fills but I let it set overnight before trying to sand. A deeper hole might not dry very...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

I have seen the pictures of your creations which granted, I probably could not fly. You do push the limits.

I've been flying for about 9 months. I was pretty sure I could handle this plane as...

I use DAP Fast N Final lightweight spackling to fill voids in foam. Works great and can be sanded to smooth it out. I wet my fingers to spread it. That helps smooth it out as well.

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Funny you should ask... I was just about to post the latest info...

Sunday I took it to the field for maiden flight #2. On takeoff attempt it made a hard left turn heading toward my fellow...

Velcro and Balsa Battery holders... Both great ideas!

Well I thought I would go ahead and post a couple photos of the Typhoon 3D after repairs.

I broke down and bought an E-Flite Park 480...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Well, I placed a balsa stick in the fuse and balanced the battery and motor on top of it, moving it further and further forward till I was able to obtain the desired CG point.

Looks like I will...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Saucerguy (or others), I cut the nose section off this evening and built a 1 1/2" temporary extension to see if I could move the CG.

Doesn't look too promising. I have a 10" chord on the...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Thanks for that input Saucerguy! I rather suspected the COG might be the problem. On the simulator even with very strict throttle management, I could still fly the thing, so I truely expected this...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Well, as I suspected, the plane was under powered and the maiden flight did not go well.

First attempt, the left aileron had somehow gotten out of adjustment and on takeoff it rolled to the left...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

This forum and this thread are what got me started. I built my first SO and later turned to buiding other planes from flat foam and covering them with ultracote to this one which has expanded my...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

3M 77 if sprayed directly on foam does eat it, yes, but when misted on the back side of a covering such as Ultracote, it does not seem to affect the foam.

It provides a certain amount of...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

My LHS does not carry Coverite, but I have been using Ultracote with good success.

I like to spray the backside with 3M 77 adhesive first and then apply it to the plane before hitting it with...

Hello all,

I just completed build #2 of the STC. Had so much fun with the first one I decided to spend a little extra time on the second one to add a nice covering. Also wanted to remove the...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Forgot to mention... discovered new flying hazards today.

I think this is first time there has been little or no wind. It was quite hot here in Florida today and the sweat from my forehead...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

Well, I finished the build on the Telemaster. Took it out for its maiden flight and it flew like a dream!

Did rolls, loops, flew upside down, left and right turns, touch and go.... opps.. ...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

The build progressed a bit futher this afternoon. Built a wing saddle which doubles as the housing for the aileron servos. I decided to use two servos mounted from the fuse sides rather than try to...

Found another great use for those bamboo skewers. They became...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

RE: Here's a Simple & FREE First Foam Build Plan! Cool Looking Plane Too...

What is with the wind lately. It really isn't much fun flying in 20 mph winds. That's how I wrecked my SO as well.

I was getting bored this evening (too windy to fly again) so I decided to...
