Mecoa is selling a direct replacement glow plug, same style as the original Norvel. I hanf started and broke in a .061 and .074 on 5% nitro 20% oil Byron fuel. They would make more power on higher...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

Looks like a P3 would be the best for small engines and low nitro followed by the P6.

I'll purchase a P3 and compare it to a stock plug.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

Mecoa makes a $3.99 head that accepts a standard long plug. I asked if they would consider making a Turbo plug head, no response.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

If you don't need max power out of these engines you can run them on 5% nitro and save your plugs.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

The Norvel .074's are gone. You can get them on ebay at really high prices ($100.00+), purchase Lite Machines .074 heli engines and try to convert them to plane use or you can go electric and be...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

P,

Sounds like you bought a lemon'e.

If you bought it new, it had a good plug and broke it in per Norvel instructions it would be a good engine. You have to purchase used engines at the...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

P,

Did you run the engine before with the regular head? If so, how did it run?

I have to set up my test stand to run the .061 again. No time until late next week.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

My new .074 running on 5% idles fine and it still has all the head shims in it. It will idle for at least two minutes with clean excelleration, it could probably do more. It has about 40 minutes of...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

I have a thing for low nitro (less corrosion in my bigger engines) fuel and had 5% fuel on hand. That's what I run in all my other engines and wanted to see how this engine would perform on it. For...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

On 5% nitro I'm about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns out. I would think higher nitro would require 2 to 3 turns out.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

One thing I noticed was that to get a peak reading I would tune up from a very rich condition, about 1500 rpm from peak and then turn the needle to peak. It would only hold that rpm for a few seconds...

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

I ran a grey Cox 5.5X4 today and it loaded it down to 15,500 peak. The engine didn't seen too happy with that prop. I reinstalled the 5X3 and it took a while to get the rpm back up to where it was.

RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

I finally ran my Big Mig .061 today. I did the oil and flip 100 times trick, then spun it with my cordless drill for a few minutes.

I ran it with Byron 5% nitro 20% oil with an extra few oz of...
