easy landing

ZDZ 50 cf gear under 16 pounds, with rec. CG

Plane flys great does all the munouvers, I can muster.
Has been a beast to land. Balanced with the fingertip method and have flown about 15 flights....

I fly with the ZDZ 50 and have 4 srvos in the tail, the ign. bat. up front and the rec. and smoke batts ahead of the landing gear. That ZDZis light

I have the ZDZ 50 in mine and it does not want to land.
Cut throttle on final and it holds altitude untill it stalls. A little tail heavy I would guess, but it flies great.

CF landing gear

Got my new Graph tec Carbonfiber landing gear yeterday.
Drilled the holes same as original gear and mounted my wheel pants. Had to sand the back edge off the gear to fit to fuse.

Inverted flight

Flys right side up and up side down with no elevator input.
Guess my CG is just about perfect. Got to be careful on the landings cause she stops flying at lower speeds.

Try high temp silicon on the bolt heads. Put a whack on the bolt and fasten it togrther. When dry they will not vibrate loose. but come out easily with a allen wrench.

Landing gear

I'm going to order the Graphtechrc carbon fiber landing gear. Has anyone tried this gear yet? Any weight savings? I'm sure it will hold up better than the supplied aluminum gear.

Finaly. First flight

First flight uneventful. Awesome.

ZDZ50, MDS 22X10 prop, 15 lbs 14 ozs. electric smoke system.
After a bunch of touch and goes the mains sure do spread.
Guess carbon fiber will be next.

CG question

If I mount the gas tank on the cg should I set the initial cg a little ahead of rec. starting point?
After all didn't great planes recomend that CG to compensate for a forward mounted tank?

My ZDZ 50 is new and I find the best way to start it is
Ignition on, full choke, full throttle.
Flip prop several times untill it fires.
then go to 1/4 throttle, a little bit of choke if you can...

RE metal gear servo screws

Talked to some of the guys flying 33 and 40% planes and they suggested a dab of silicon on top of the servo screw and arm.
Easy to remove but wont vibrate loose.

engine choice

I have the zdz 50 and the plane balances out perfect.
The zdz has more power than the fox and is lighter also.
Comparable to a DA50.

Prop Adaptor

Took a lot of work to make the first on. I may considder duplicating. For safety you could remove one of the countersunk bolts and replace with a stud and drill 1 hole in the prop and spinner.

prop adaptor

Had this made for my ZDZ50 at work with a CAD program and a C&C Okuma lathe.
Makes prop changes easy and My spinner doesn't need drilling.

ZDZ Ballance

With motor ,muffler,prop and spinner, and the ignition but no RX batt the plane was right on the suggested CG.
This 52 is light and the muffler looks like it was made for this plane.
