That way of adjusting the ST carb does work and if look back through this thread
you will probably find references to it. I've done and it's not as complicated
as it sounds...

I have a ST. 90. I'm not sure if this will help you or not, I haven't extended the needle valve, I have a remote needle valve, with a piece of full tubing stuff over the brass end...
