RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

That's exactly what I did. Unplug your DA fill cap and whala, take the cowl off. It's just plain easier to install and get to. It's also easier to check for leaks or tubing condition (because the...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

I strengthened a part of the cowl with 3/16" ply and epoxy covered with a little fiberglass, drilled and hole and mounted it right in the side of the cowl. Works fine there.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Robert.. Yeah, the one adjustment I made was so minimal that it really didn't affect the spinner centering much. Not where it was noticable. You'll be able to tell what you need after you set your...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Use what's there.. It's fine. Then make any adjustments as necessary. I've had three and only had to change one, just a little bit... but I can't remember which way.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Robert.. Put a shim between the backplate and the cowl before you tighten up the screws. See if that works before you start filling and re-drilling holes...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Robert.. I hate to say this bud, but I don't think your problem is with the spinner. I think it's the way you mounted your cowl. You say you mounted your engine correctly, right? Well, the cowl is...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Robert.. Anyone that has read through all that crap deserves any help he/she needs. I don't fly the Patty much anymore (once every couple of months) but I've still got her hanging on the wall. I've...

Robert.. Good goin dude! I've got a question for ya. After reading 90 some odd pages, is there any questions you didn't get answered in one way or another?

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

J... The motor box and fire wall is built correctly. That's all I can say cause I've never checked the offsets/thrust lines. I've had three Pattys and had to work with the right thrust some, but...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

I've heard of lots of issues with the 635's. I know a guy with a UCando and he used six 635's on the ailerons (six flights) before he changed to metal gears. I'd much rather have slop develop than...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

The wings surly look rebuildable. But my take on it would be to look at Tower and see what you can get a replacement fuse for. I see they have them for $135. You just might save yourself $135...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Wait.. Wait here just a second. I'm like Ram here. I've had quite a few Patty's and they were all different, but they were the same too. I've had one with a Moki, one with a BME, several with the...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Pete.. I've had four Patty's a I've seen what's in them to support the hinges. Not much. I had the original CA hinges break and I had to do the same thing by replacing them with another type of...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

I just knew someone would say something about epoxy and/or gorilla glue. I've NEVER had an epoxied pinned hinge fail.. period. Even after total wipe outs, the hinges have never come loose. In...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Epoxy works just fine.. Although I've been using Gorilla glue. You've got to have some time to hang out and wipe the Polyurathane glue as it expands though ( at least 2 hours)

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Just use the Dubro pinned hinges, not the hinge point hinges and you'll be just fine.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

They HAVE TO go in the same slotted area. The hinge points are only doubled about 1 1/2" behind the slots only.

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Nothing say you can't pin it after. I just have always made sure it was pinned with the least amount of weight hanging on it.

Now, I used 1/4 X 20 hex head bolts. I used the allen wrench on...

RE: GP Patty Wagstaff - Building & Flying

Yep.. Stretchy stuff with velcro on the bottom. You can't have enough protection for your pilot here in the Las Vegas heat! "Canopy Condom".. Pretty catchy, huh?
