RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

I've "unlatched" the carb spring on all of my DLE, DA and Fuji engines. Don't remove it, as it does serve a purpose to prevent the throttle axle from vibrating around. The DLE-30 provides great...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Not a bad idea. Wish I'd have thought of that. Sounds like you may be speaking from experience???

I could claim that gravity is much stronger in the bathroom, with all the water pipes,...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Wonder if my wife would miss her digital bathroom scale???? Bet she would. But nothing says I can't borrow it for a few minutes, and unless I drip gasoline all over it, she'll never know!!

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

I don't have an accurate scale for weighing my birds, but I think I need to get one. I'll try to get one this weekend and at least get a good "guesstimate" of how much she weighs.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

When I built my GPGSS, I installed two 6/32 blind nuts and bolts on each side of the fuselage, one at the forward most CG location, the other at the aft limit (you can just see them in the attached...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Charlie,

Sounds like your maiden flight was a complete success!

As for the CG, I originally had mine at the 5 1/4" mark with the Fuji 34, along with about 5 oz. of lead under the tail. ...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Brian,

The nice part about the landing gear mounted under the fuselage, particularly if you use the GP Stearman gear, is that you have a ton of prop clearance. If you need to swing a 20" prop,...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Great looking engine K. I like the green color.

What's the all-up weight, including muffler? Looks like it might be a heavy engine.

Will you mount it cylinder up or inverted?

Keep...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

How did you rig your choke...similar to the way I posted photos of?? You can see a piece of piano wire coming out of the left upper side of the cowl, it "L-bends" back through the round hole in the...

Booker, did you have to add weight to the nose of your ship?

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Al,

Yes, looking forward to seeing how she flies with the DL. She few well with ample power on the Fuji 34, so expecting no less performance and maybe a little more! Hate to bail on the "Fuji"...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Amen Charlie.

Like you, I also like my airplanes that fly realistically and I buy and build those for their intended purposes. Yes, neat to experiment with, but the Sportster line was not...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

So far, with 14 flights on my GSS, I haven't had a tip stall, but I'm also bringing it in a little faster, just because I don't have that many flights on her. I once tip-stalled a H-9 25% scale...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Thanks for the info Gary.

I've run through the mfg. forum for Fuji, but nothing really earth-shattering there. One thing that did come up with some frequency, was the need to run the engine a...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Mark,

Put in three more flights last night with the GSS and Fuji 34. Engine never flamed out, but when the idle was brought all the way down, she'd go into a "tick-over" idle, then the idle...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Kostas,

Looking forward to seeing your build. I like the aircraft more each time I fly it. This is one aircraft that I could honestly say, if something (bad) happened to it, I'd order another...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Frenchie,

Thanks for the advice. I really would like to keep te 34 in the airplane...it's got plenty of power and wouldn't have to be grounded for a couple days making the engine change. Maybe...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Ahics,

You're right. Rich enough the Fuji will do a little better, but then the idle needs to be bumped up to around 2 K and that's a little too high, particularly for an airplane that can be a...

Very nice work Charlie!! I really like the canopy.

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Great photo Charlie.

I like your idea of trying to make the Sportster a little more scale-like. Wouldn't take much "bashing" to emulate the full size example, plus it will be quite unique. ...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Charlie, you'll like the Xoar props. I switched from MA and Zinger and am currently running an 18X8 on my Fuji 34 BT Ei. I've just converted all of my gassers to Xoar props...the painted ones, and...

That's absolutely amazing!!! Great find on your part. Your GSS should closely emulate the original bird if you make the conversion. Just goes to show you, everything comes back...

RE: New Giant GP Super Sportster!!!!!

Charlie,

I think you'll like how the GSS flies with the Fuji 34. I've got the BT 34 ei in mine. I'm spinning an 18/8 Xoar and that seems to be just right. Not too much power, not too little. ...
