RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Rarefind,

I have flown mine at the "new" recommended forward location of 2 1/2 inches aft of the leading edge of the (actual) wing, not the cuff, and that's with a Saito 91 and 6 ounces of lead...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Dairyman,

Yes, hoping your weather does clear so you can get some mid-winter flying in. Unfortunately, we'll get about 4 more months of flying up here before we're in the deep-freeze, which...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

So far, I have had no problems with the Robart gear...no binding, nice and smooth action. I used the supplied mounting template and that worked well, which also will prevent any uneven mounting or...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Dairyman,

Fantasitc to hear your ship balances well with the Saito 82! The 82 is about 3.5 oz. lighter than the Saito 91, but I've also got the large Dubro 4 1/2" balloon tires, along with the...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Good advice on the gassser break-in Brian. I ran only about 3-4 tanks on the test stand with the DL 30, to get the needle positions roughed-in (pretty darn close to the factory recommended settings,...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Basman,

The 7 oz does not include the ignition battery. I'd have to put that somewhere close to the CG or as far behind as I can (without using too long of an extension), to help prevent it...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

You're right Basman.

Must be an optical illusion. You have to just keep watching the airplane to see that you're maintaining altitude and not actually losing altitude. Hoping to get mine...

I was also quite surprised that deploying the flaps half, or full, caused virtually no trim change in the aircraft, regardless of speed. I think they're small enough to mainly add to...

You've made a good choice on the OS. I've always run OS and Saito (nitro) engines, and you can't go wrong, they always run. I know others may also run fine, but I think you hear fewer...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Maiden flight completed yesterday afternoon. Bent's idea of bicycle innertubes as bungee covers worked great on the Pawnee and my 1/4 scale cub.

As everyone has said so far, it's a blast to...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Sounds great Rick.

Guessing you obtained another speed controller and you're ready to fly her again.

Weather's looking pretty darn good for some flying later today her in southwest...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Rick,

Great photo, shows a lot of detail. Looks like your main and tail gear should be able to put up with any rough surface you can throw at it. I'm still waiting for a not-so-windy day to...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Rick,

Thanks for the explanation. Now I know how you attached the bungee struts. Very ingenious!! Keep me posted on how it works.

Love your gear, looks very scale-like. How did you attach inside of the fueselage?

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Some good ideas here to protect the O-rings.

I'd still like to find some sort of flexible covering, similar to what Hangar-9 uses on the Cub, which is a black nylon material that makes up a...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Basman,

I'm not sure who I'll vote for, but whoever I vote for, he's got to be a supporter of model mviation...or at least not a problem for model aviation. That kind of thins out the pack...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Joe,

Looking forward to seeing how you like the robart gear on the Pawnee and the Flying King. I bet with the rough field you fly from, this gear will work great. Not sure how many O-rings to...

Thanks Brian. Yes, I'm looking forward to getting my Pawnee in the air and seeing how well the gear works and if it needs any more O-rings. Wanted to get it flying tonight (Monday), but President...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Basman,

I think most of the posts indicate that the stock landing gear is the opposit, just a little too stiff. Sounds like a few folks have had to re-bend the gear after some hard landings,...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Great question!

I actually wanted to use the 1/4 scale gear for a Hangar 9 Cub, but it was a little too small for that application and would have required quite a bit of...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Here are photos of the modified landing gear set-up on my Pawnee. This is a Robert Cub gear (#690), with 4.5" Dubro Balloon Tires. This gear uses "O" rings instead of springs. I have four O-rings...

Thanks for your information regarding how your Pawnee is flying. Built mine over the winter with a Saito 91 GK, but haven't flown it yet. I've been concerned about all of the...

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!

Lotsof,

The biggest issue with the Pawnee appears to be drag, both induced (created by the process of lift) and parasitic (caused by things protruding into the relative wind, such as canopy,...
