Don't ya just love guessing? ;) So tough to toss solutions at a problem when the symptoms are not explained.

All of the suggestions could be fixes. Or not.

OT - do you recall what throttle setting you were at and how the engine sounded before and whilte it cut out? Had you just backed off the throttle during a down line? Full throttle "birds look out"...
