RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

Your new one looks like the ones I bought in 2008 except for the holes in the side of the engine mount. Quite why they want to let engine snot into the fuselage, I can't imagine. Attachment for the...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

Quelle grande bummage! They must have completely the wrong grades of wood down the back end then.

Yes, female, or I was the last time I checked (Winter undies!)
What's the problem with the...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

This must be a bit different to the red/white one. That seems to work at about 90mm or so.Does yours have an airfoil tail?

If you need that much lead up the front, I'd move all the tail servos up...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

I know the words to that song.

I would suggest that the 78" version SEA26 A or 26B is a nicer performer overall so if you have an engine that will suit (1.60 2-stroke or similar) then it would be...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

Sadly, I have done no more than run up the engine. I did a build review and there's a small ttopic that I started.
Our flying field is an old WW1 fighter field that protected London against...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

Twice?

Crikey you did well to get it down.
IMHO opinion, a 120AX might be a tad overpowered for this airframe. It's possible you're getting high-speed flutter caused by just going too fast, or...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68

When you have more than enough power......well, why not double it?

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

IMHO helicopters prove the triumph of brute-force over common-sense.

But anyway, I think the reason this thread has gone on so long is that the Seagull 68" Edge is good value and is attractive,...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I did this on the 78" version. I used Sullivan Gold'N'rods but had to bring them out under the position for the tail servos because the horns are well outboard and I didn't want to have too steep an...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

Another measure is how the plane responds in turns: Does it tighten? And how does it behave in vertical turbulence (updraughts)? Mine would snap upwards, which isn't a great characteristic on...

fantastic!
Photo's appreciated......................................................
Watch out for the sun on the canopy though! They melt and go droopy even in moderate sun.

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I've been waiting to fly my 78" Edge 540. The flying field is beeing dug-up for better drainage, so there's no flying until April.
But I've noticed that the weight of my model keeps changing and...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I agree with you about the weight. I think a 90 2 stroke should be ample power though. I had an Irvine 60 in my first (1.8bhp on a 12x6) and it was sprightly enough for normal aerobatics. It...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

A club member has a 120AX in one. He has a devil of a job landing because he just can't slow down!!
It goes up very well though!!

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I'm one of the 90mm' ers. I thought the gust response with a more rearward CG was just ridiculous. The thing would just pitch up violently in every little puff of updraught.
For my second model,...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I found the recommended deflections for initial flying were OK, if a bit rapid on full stick, but I preferred it with lots of exponential applied (-32%) on aileron. This permitted (me) better...

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building

I had this problem too.
My 1st plane was written off by someone taxiing into it so for the second one I moved the throttle servo right up to the firewall and didn't use metal-gear servo's in the...
