No, I found the culprit last night when I tore the rear end apart.
The shaft that holds the counter gear in place is secured to the transmission with a single screw. :eek:

I had checked Ebay before I posted the thread and while I did manage to find a cover for the tranny that has been about it.
TamiyaUSA.com has also been an exercise in futility.
