RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Sorry for your loss, Pete. Thats the one big problem with this hobby, all it takes is one little thing to bring a beautiful bird down. I still have my Z, but only fly it at flyins and contests. Just...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Ah yes, the polikarpov I-16, first flown, 1933. State of the art when first built, with retractable undercarrage, it was the fighter most encountered by the Germans when they attacked the Soviet...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Pete, I agree about the wing breaking, and that was the cause of the loss of the Gee Bee Z. If you watch the video carefully, it is obvious what happened. I have found the Z to be a great flying...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Pete, great pics, thank you for posting them. The last one where the mechanic is fueling the Z is very interesting. Shows the larger cowl well. The fuel guage seems to have been changed/moved, and is...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

I think the larger engine they fitted for the speed record atempts was part of the problem also. Sadly, the Z won everything it entered with the Wasp Jr motor, they had to put the 750hp Wasp motor...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hi Oberst, man you are going at this project full blast! Can't wait to see your Z scaled out. Thanks for the pics, I can see there are lots more scale details that I can attempt. I have used the CG...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Oberst, just saw your post, my computer has been down for a while.... I think your Saito 150 will fly the Z just fine, but you will probably need nose weight to balance out. My Z balanced perfect...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Good job, Steff, looks like you have your Z ready to fly again. The wing tip skids should help alot. I have not flown mine since the last contest, been busy with my Corsair and AT6. Glad I was able...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

If I ever need to rebuild my wings, I would really like to scale up the wingtip outline, do barn door ailerons, and move the gear out to a scalelike position. Hopefully these mods won't mess up the...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hey, Steff, I was thinking, if your covering you ordered is not to your liking, I could slip some in a envelope and mail it to you. No problemo.... Duane

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

I put strips of yellow duct tape on the wing tips where they scrape, don't know why they made the gear so narrow on the Z, the scale location would have been wider, and it would help to eliminate the...

World Models arfs are covered in toughlon, which is an exact match or very close to the covering on the Z. AirBorne models sells it. They are in Hong Kong and Livermore Ca, USA. I have a roll of...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hey, motor12, sorry to hear you have to sell your Z. It is truely a unique model. If a guy was to leave the wing in 2 pieces, the whole package would be pretty small. Just have to figure a way to...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Well, the Hemet Model Masters club held a Dawn Patrol/Golden Age flyin today. It has been hotter than the blazes here in So Cal, (107 today) so to keep things simple, I only took my Z to the meet....

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

120 2 stroke with a pitts muffler would fit fine, and would fly the dog out of the Z. You would have to put all weight possible up foreward and maybe some lead for balance. Flew my Gee Bee Z a week...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hi guys, haven't been flying my Z as of late, been busy with our Dawn Patrol and getting my two Fokker D8s ready to fly in it. Also built a Sig 1/4 scale clipped wing cub and put in one of the new...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hi Racj, good luck with your R2 project, sounds like you have a good plan. As with the Z, keeping the wheels from snagging on the pants is important. I think trying to keep the weight of the heavy...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Thanks Steff, I was quite a bit nervous about the first flight, the airplane was completed some time ago, and I checked and rechecked all parts of it, before flying. Then the weather was not good,...

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z

Hi Steff, I will probably stay with the stock gear set up, but will modify it (try to keep the forks from turning) and use narrower wheels, and open up the wheel pants at the sides and rear. I have...
